Why? I’ve never seen LSU be stable at the QB position for 5 consecutive years and we will have that with Hurley coming in.

I'm not high on Collins and, as noted in the other thread, I have concerns about Hurley's accuracy. It's a 2025 problem of course, and we can always tap the portal.

Recruiting rankings are so political and subjective it's really hard for me to get moved by being ranked 7 instead of 4. If you are in the top 10, develop your players and are savvy in the portal to add depth and fill holes, you can compete for the CFP.

This is exactly spot on. Every once in a while you land a Harold Perkins that was a 5* player but we’ve also seen 4*s and 3*s make huge impacts on teams with development. We constantly see regular DL’s well in the SEC so you do NOT have to have a roster full of 5* DLman to make huge plays. We recruit plenty of high end talent to compete and even excel on the field with the right coaches.

Look at our OL for example. It’s not full of 5* players, it’s full of really good 4* players and one 5* player who wasn’t even a consensus 5*. Now I tend to disagree and I think we got ourselves a few 5* guys who weren’t ranked correctly. A great player is a great player and LSU is going to get those players.

We haven’t been consistent enough to be talked about in the media as one of the elites yet. We are on our way to that and no matter what was said in the past about our classes, this is a new staff and a new era. It must be given time to develop the consistency needed to be in the same conversations as the elite. It’s just that simple. We’re getting there and we will get there. I’m not sure if it’s going to be this year or next or the next but we will get there.

I think Jaden Daniel’s and this offense will take a big leap this year, with that, we should see an uptick in recruiting. We have the right guy at HC. He’s going to do all the things that the LSU program needs to be consistent and he knows that’s what the fans want. I think we’ll see that this season.

The QB situation at LSU has been this good since 2003-2007 span. Those dudes had elite defenses during that QB reign.

You just have to win.

Recruiting improves when you sustain winning.

Our 2020 Class was ranked #4. It was a disaster

Yep, the 5star players in that class.
Eli Ricks DB
Boutte WR
Guilbert TE

Only one finished at LSU. Go back and rank them now, anything close to a 5 star?

Just my honest opinion

In this era of NIL & Transfer Portal I really don’t put as much stock into having these top recruiting classes every year. Because reality is a good chunk of everyone’s guys will be gone after a year anyway so you’re just recruiting the same guys over again

What are you talking about…LSU just had the most talented and greatest team a few years back with an average coach.

Which of the 19 team were blue chippers, five star players, prior to that season?
Burrows- No
Jefferson- no
Chase, DB recruit by previous staff, converted to WR by O.
I remember in 18 half the DBs were missing in the last game vs A&M, and in the Bowl game.
The TV Commentators mentioned, our OL was very suspect.
Somebody brought in Burrows and did some great coaching to make the 19 team into a champion.

The facts don't lie.

It’s a solid class but not elite. Would land somewhere around 7 or 8

Which is elite.

Actually best class in the past 10 years according to 247 was 2014 and it was ranked 2nd. But look at what that amounted to...

Exactly! 247 was wrong. The best class was 2017. That’s judging by results not rankings by a bunch of gender-confused sportswriters.

The top 15 guys were all at least good, with the worst being Miles Brennan and Tyler Taylor (who was a freshman starter, but with character issues). And the group bringing up the rear included Tory Carter, Jontre Kirkland and the best receiver in the NFL, Justin Jefferson.

I think 14 of these guys are on NFL rosters. And this was the junior class that gave us the 2019 National Championship.

He wasn't converted to WR and O was the coach when he got to campus
Miles was just a dumbass to want him at DB

he played WR all through HS and was recruited at WR by every school. He was top 50 recruit at WR

This staff understands roster management and development. They also understand the portal.

No it’s not a joke and for all those downvoting my post just can’t accept the truth. You are arguing with me that LSU recruits on the SAME level as Bama, UGA, Ohio State, etc year in and year out? What facts prove that?

“You can’t accept the truth” LOLOLOLOL
Ah yes. The real difficult truths are faced here on the LSU recruiting board. You are so much braver than us.

I’m curious to know how old you are.

You must forgot about that 2020 Top 5 ranked class that about half transferred? Stop star gazing that should be a reminder everything that shines isn't gold.

This is a solid class. Imo it will look better if they finish strong with players like mckinley, Ward, and some top receivers.

I remember years back UTx got the 6th best DB coming out of high school. LSU got another DB from the same high school. He was the lowest rated position player in our recruiting class. I remember a local radio guy talking about who would be playing as a true freshman from that class. He did say, any of them might play that year, but one guy he said, would red-shirt. It was that same guy that wasn’t highly ranked.

Well, the guy UTx signed, this was his bio:

“All-American, two-time all-state, all-area and two-time all-district performer at defensive back … played in the 2012 Under Armour All-America Game … a member of ESPNU’s top 150 national prospects … ranked as the sixth-best cornerback and 79th-best overall prospect by ESPNU… a two-year starter who tallied 128 tackles, nine INTs, 38 PBUs and three fumble recoveries”

The LSU guy, his freshman year:

”Started all 13 games at cornerback … Ranked fourth on the team with 57 total tackles … Added two interceptions and five pass breakups for an LSU defense that ranked among the national leaders in total defense (No. 8 at 307.6 yards per game) and pass efficiency defense (No. 11 with 107.78 rating) … Stepped in for the dismissed Tyrann Mathieu and played like a veteran from the start.”

But it gets better, the LSU guy, was drafted in the 7th round, 233 player taken. What did he do in his first year in the NFL?
“ He played in all 16 games with two starts as a rookie, recording 61 combined tackles (51 solo) and seven passes defensed.“

The LSU guy went on to help his team win the Super Bowl This was the third appearance in franchise history, which they would later win against the Patriots, 41-33.

This LSU guy is still in the NFL.

The UTx highly ranked player, he ended up transferring to Arizona St. Finished up playing football and entered the working force.

Everyone gets the same chance, everyone gets rankings. Let’s see what they do.

Anyone remember this Tiger?

Recall Mason Taylor being a three star recruit, but playing a pivotal role for the Tigers last season and surely the upcoming two to three years. Trust Kelly and staff on their eye for talent and of course the development. Theyll continue to have those three star gems and they will land some sharks. Simmons being a strong lean as is. Not to mention the high possibility of McKinley. Mack is a borderline five star on a platform and could continue to rise on a consensus level to that. Think the OP is out of his “depth” here.
