Trey Kaufman-Renn is his name.

Played 4 seasons, RS for one season, Class of '21, looking for a 6th season. He has a TRO, but his long-term eligibility prospects are slim to none.

From what I read, he's pretty certain he's playing for somebody, and LSU was mentioned as a possibility, even potentially in contact with him.
Maybe he's too hot considering the circumstances with the sec for us to sign?

McMahon was supposedly as straight an arrow coach as you could find and yet he had three foreign pros on last years team. Tamba was from Spain, Zipper from Israel and McKinnon from Australia.
And yet when Wade announced his strategy was to recruit mainly foreign pros, all the hack sports announcers and sports writers and fellow coaches, they all blew a gasket! Seems like they are just after Wade to crucify him like they have been most of his career.
My theory on the difference between the baseball rules vs football and basketball is that money rules. Baseball is a minor sport when it comes to revenue and actually loses money for most schools. Therefore nobody really cares. But football and basketball make hundreds of millions and everyone is either looking for an advantage or trying to take away an advantage that its opponents have.
After the ridiculous NIL money that is being thrown around, calling these guys professional is just so much hypocrisy. A lot of Americans don't realize that there are no big time money making college sports in the rest of the world. A high school age player usually goes to a sports academy and the college age play for club teams that are professional. There is no way for them not to be a pro.
We just have to have faith that Wade will field a respectable team and be able to coach up some of the weaker players.

There was no reason to insert McMahon into this discussion except that you need a villain to provide the air that you breathe. This is Will Wade's program to assembel and coach, Right now he barely has enough players to field a starting lineup. Hopefully that changes.
Shut the frick up

Also, I challenge anyone at the SEC to tell me the distinction between this two player
Saliou Niang: Never played college basketball. Did not sign a NBA contract. Was drafted in the Second round by Cleveland -- SEC says he can't play.
Logan Schmidt: Never played college baseball. Did not sign MLB contract. Was drafted in the Second round by Cleveland -- SEC says no problem.
I agree it’s all bullshite. But one major difference is Siang entered the draft and Schmidt didn’t.

So what don't you agree with?

Rather than downvoting my post, why don’t you comment on it and point out my inaccuracies?
Siang, an international player, must proactively apply to enter the NBA Draft.
Schmidt, as a graduating high school player, was automatically entered into the MLB draft through no effort or action on his part.
The poster I replied to “challenged” anyone to point out how the situations are different. That is how.
It’s bullshite, but that is why the NCAA always treated the NBA/NFL and MLB drafts differently. Underclassmen had to declare and enter the NBA or NFL drafts, while the MLB just automatically declared everyone once you hit a certain age/class.

"always" is not totally acurate.
Unless the NCAA has recently changed the rule, in prior years an underclassmen who received combine invite could hire an agent, participate in the combine, DECLARE for the draft, go through the draft...and then choose to return to college if he was not drafted. For instance, RJ Luis could have returned to St. John's after going undrafted in 2025. Instead, he chose to sign a two way contract.
So even the new "declaration" distinction is total BS. Prior to the recent rule change the NCAA allowed some players to DECLARE for the NBA draft and return if they went undrafted.
Now compare Niang's situation with Thierry Darlan. He played for a pro league in Africa. He then played two seasons in the G-League, before signing with Santa Clara...where he is still on the roster today. Theoretically, he did not sign a "NBA contract". But the G-league is as much a professional league as any international league.
Again, it is another instance of the NCAA not being proactive, then making a mess of shite when they haphazardly change a rule on the back end to fit a situation they should have considered early. It's why they always lose in court. The rules are ambiguous and are interpreted inconsistently. The NCAA did not foresee that international pros would want to play college basketball because they could earn more money as a CBB player.

Agreed. The NCAA created this mess by giving out so many waivers and changing their rules so many times.

And now the major conferences are getting together, haphazardly changing rules midstream SOLELY to get around court rulings, then suing member schools to leverage them into compliance.
All the NCAA and conferences are doing are taking actions to eventually secure their own demise. Despite what the NCAA and major conferences want to pretend, major college football and basketball are very lucrative marketplaces for the players. Taking these steps are just strengthening the players position that the conferences have a monopoly on the marketplace. It is only a matter of time before players bring those suits...and they will win..and breakup the NCAA and conferences for good.

Can we have a thread to discuss the basketball team (incoming players), WITHOUT constantly bringing up McMahon or anything else?
JUST "here's what we currently have, and what we are pursuing"?

Where is the “don’t mention Brian Kelly” or “Paul mainieri” police in every football and baseball thread ?
I mean seriously, the former head coach is gonna get mentioned, like it or not
That’s EVERY sport not just men’s basketball

This is the Recruiting board. Can we not have a thread dedicated to incoming recruits and players?
Unless someone was recruited by McMahon, he's irrelevant to the upcoming roster.

Alt26’s thread that you responded to didn’t mention CoachMc. He was discussing NCAA missteps and player eligibility, which is the heart of where LSU MBB recruiting currently stands and is totally relevant as to why we don’t have an official roster release that has so many posters in a perpetually panicked state.

That's fine. I wasn't singling out anyone. I wasn't bashing anyone.
I'm asking for a simple discussion of roster and incoming players, no hidden agenda.
I do think the legal moves are relevant because of who we apparently targeted, so I agree with that. But my issue is having 60 posts in a thread, and 50 being people trolling and insulting each other. That doesn't help anyone trying to look up what the upcoming team will be like.

quote:Oh, I hear you and I admit I was fully involved in it a while back and consciously stepped away from it. I would say CoachMc doesn’t need to be constantly injected into every discussion, but also he should be able to be mentioned occasionally for the right context, without some white knight coming in to berate everyone.

That said, the NCAA and conferences have made it more difficult this recruiting cycle than needed and in my opinion that’s why we don’t have anything really definitive to share with the fans. I think that could have easily been avoided and do the logical reset that’s happening next season. Instead, they’re actually changing some eligibility criteria mid-stream which was a dumb fight to pick for little to no gain.

There is no info on the basketball team and no one in the local/state media seems all that motivated to find any. I'm certain that if/when any information is known that it will be posted.
Otherwise, this thread as become kind of the "catch all" thread for any basketball discussions. The reason is twofold: (1) the lack of information leads to little to discuss. On the Tiger Rant that means any basketball discussion quickly gets shuffled off of the first page by new topics. (2) It's football season. That is going to take up all of the room on the Rant. Seriously, go start a general discussion basketball thread on the Rant. It will be off the first page by 10:00 am. So the handful of people who like to discuss anything basketball all congregate to this spot even if technically those discussions may have little to do with actual recruiting news. It's a byproduct of circumstances. Not a desire to "derail" a topic on which there is really very little news.
