why the frick do we suck dick at QB recruitment.

I'm not complainin', but considering that less-than-stellar trend, how in the hell have we continued to attract some serious WR studs during this same period?

we always have one WR who just has nice numbers (bc Jefferson can't make it past him in his progressions)

See above.

Short of 20/20 hindsight, what was wrong with any of these signings?

The problem has been not signing a QB in every class.

Signing Russell and Flynn in the same class was the last Coaching Staff, not this one, so it's even worse than it looks.

The big WR we've signed have mostly been from La and considering we continue to have WR drafted in the top 3 rounds, why shouldn't La WR come to LSU? Since when is Bama a wide open offense?

Whether Mett stays or leaves, no QB we sign this year will help us next year.

When everyone was whining about jimbo and how they were excited to see him go. I said, you may not like his offense, however, one day we will miss his ability to recruit qbs. I think we are seeing it, now.

My knock on g.c. was his inability to recruit. i think his history show's that. some believe in his inability to develop qbs. me, i just believe you either got a player or you don't. my point, j.j. was the same qb with krags as g.c. and if jimbo coached him, he'd be the same. Same with lee.

i thought krags would have helped the qb recruiting, and he may very well have. he hasn't gotten the high profile guys, however, rivers, randal, liggens, ect. may prove to be better than what we've had lately.

Once again, QB is an issue for us.
If something happens to Mett, we are in trouble.
It's not like this hasn't been an issue for a while.
This lack of depth is the biggest issue in a title run for the Tigers, IMO.

I disagree with you somewhat. Look at Dennis Dixon after GC left. And who know how much working with a better QB coach could have help with JJ or Lee.

Don't get your hopes up. I was surprised LSU even offered him.

I could see Mettenberger coming out and having a damn good season, so maybe that'll help attract the attention of a big prospect. I really don't know who all LSU still has on their board, though.

How high is Jeremy Johnson?

BTW, is Liggins going to play quarterback? I think he has the potential to be a good defensive end or tackle, but he has terrible accuracy when throwing the ball. I doubt LSU fans would like that. I know I wouldn't.

That's fine. I know some people think i'm crazy for that stance. I've just seen way to many successful and unsuccessful qb's under the same coaching. why does one succeed and the other doesn't? same coaching.

one could argue dixon, one could argue jason campbell. however, i think their success had more to do about the type of team around them their senior seasons. If you look at their career's outside of that one year, they are still the same average to below average player they always were with the best coaching money can buy.

i don't think coaching is insignificant. I think they can help players. teach them techniques, organization, film study, ect. however, i don't think they make players. i think players make coaches more than coaches make players. The best coaches usually have the best players.

I would argue that good teams need good leadership. That usually comes from the head coach, but sometimes a great leader at QB can accomplish the same thing. Look at Indianapolis the last two seasons for an example, or Troy Aikman winning another title in Dallas with Switzer as coach. Or, for a college example, look at the success Brett Favre had at Southern Miss when Curley Hallman was head coach.

obviously talent is the biggest factor, but I do think good coaching can make marginal differences. Guys like JJ and Lee aren't lacking the arm to make throws. They don't reqad defenses well or make progressions on reads. I'm not saying a coach could make Lee Luck and JJ RGIII, but it could have helped a little.

that's my point, all great players. All made the coaches look better than they were. w/o those players, those coaches didn't have much success. i'd even point to urban meyer, he was genius with tebow, not so much with brantley. (brantley was a very high profile qb recruit, too.)Now, had cam not been kicked out, urban really looks like a genius. instead, he made the chiz look good.

favre made curley a lot of money!
