re: Proof it was about the money for Simmons

This isn’t over but LSU needs someone who can show these guys how to build their own money and not have it given to them. That has staying power and would be very impressive to parents. This is your path, here’s proof that if you take this path, you can become a success yourself and now have the knowledge to build anything you want to build yourself. That is much much more valuable and you can come up with a dollar sign for this route. It’s worth unlimited dollar amounts, quite literally.
All of this stuff is being done. They have former players who are successful businessmen talk to them on how LSU has supported them after their career. One of the is a former 5* QB that has very successful business in Houston.

That is invaluable and has staying power. Why LSU isn’t all over that aspect of this NIL stuff is crazy to me. They should be and need to be. I’d go to LSU or have my child go simply to learn how to do this and be taught this for free
The fact that you don't think LSU is doing exactly that is crazy to me.
We have numerous examples of measurable results that show being a part of the LSU brand is in and of itself a value that any player should be dying to be a part of.
Just ask Dylan Crews and Paul Skenes, and Bayou Barbie and Olivia Dunne, or even Kayshon Boutte or Harold Perkins.
The LSU brand is its own beneficial entity. For the present, no school is in the public consciousness like LSU. Everybody loves a winner, and another successful football season would only further sear our popularity into the national public's collective consciousness.
That is something that only a very few select schools can match, and it opens avenues of income that would normally be unavailable elsewhere.
Kelly is taking the right approach. He's selling a 40 year plan for his players, not a 4 year plan. To graduate champions. His message may not have fully taken hold yet, but it will, and LSU will reap the benefits of the efforts of the entire Athletic Department for years to come.
If Colin Simmons can't see that now, he will see soon enough, and so will every other high school recruit as well as potential transfer.

Who cares. Focus on the kids that come

Who was the guy? I can't ever remember us winning one of these rumored bidding wars
The more important question is can you honestly remember one that we lost that really ended up mattering? LSU has had the last laugh more times than I can recall. We are going to end with a great class, we are expected to contend for a playoff spot and we have an outstanding coach. It’s gonna be an awesome season.

In page 217 of Lindy’s College Football Magazine. Texas transfer DE Ovie Oghoufo was asked why he transferred to LSU. His reply:
“I wanted to go somewhere that had an opportunity to win the National Championship, and I felt like Coach (Brian) Kelly was on the verge of that here.”
I guess since he’s been in both programs, he knows who has the better program.

Someone should have told him that 1st round money is much more gooder than 4th.

We have to stop making excuses. Money is part of the sport legally now so bitching about getting beat because of money is pointless. Did any of us complain when we got PP7? He was paid, caught being paid, both parties involved In negotiating the deal were punished(Willie Lyles the dealer).
And on another note, what to make of Embody suggesting LSUs money was comparable or more than the Texas money? Are we choosing to believe our insiders now or are we shelving them again? Certainly doesn't fit the narrative of this thread. Maybe we only listen when it's what we want to hear. Trendy thing this cycle.

Ryan Perrilloux?
Not sure exactly who he is referring to but Russell Shepard is a business owner that's doing very well in Houston.

Texas has a sub par year and LSU has another 10 win season and stays competitive in NIL, this can be another Harold Perkins type situation. This recruitment will carry on until Signing Day

What

I mean I can't blame the guy. I don't know his situation but if his family is struggling I completely understand his reasoning for taking the highest bidder. Also, he could transfer next year after finding out Tejas ain't shite.

It is what it is. He isn't the first (if it is the case of $) and he won't be the last.

I love LSU and even Baton Rouge. But Texas is a better school, and Austin is a much better city. And he’s from Texas. All that, combined with getting $1.5 million? Seems like a no-brainer. Would have loved to get him, but I can’t hate on the kid for making that decision.
LSU puts way more kids into the NFL. What a terrible take.

I assume he'll stick with his commitment considering the NIL/family angle.
But, friendly reminder that (especially these days) a commitment to a school doesn't seal the deal until the papers are in.

Saw and talked with Shep a few months back. An yes, he has done very well in Houston. Got to talk with him and Michael Brockers, he too has done well. Both represent the LSU family.

If he went for the money really can't blame the young man. Hope him the best except when playing our Tigers.

Hell transfer over just like our starting Jack did this year
He probably has to stay to get it.

quote:See, that's the thing. Can't hate him for obvious reasons, but if the NFL was his main goal, LSU would have been far better. All of LSU's EDGE defender types have went high (Key and Hunter 3rd round, Ojulari 2nd round, Chaisson 1st round). We've missed out on the 5 star Edge defenders, as Womack is our first one (BTW I mean composite), so think of what we could do with him in 3 years?
Let's be real. Both great schools if you're a 17-19 year old looking out for your future, and he is from Texas. Would've loved to have him in P&G, but definitely not a bad career decision. That said, I hope our tackles have him on his back every game, all game.
