I know not NEARLY everyone likes Matt Moscana but he was making some good "observations" yesterday or 2 days ago.
Read the tea leaves on Woodland and Causey joining the class and when they did. We definitely didnt want to lose Ondre Evans but they knew they were going to have to replace him, but Cai Bates is someone they just didnt like as a CB with his senior film thus far and I think you saw a bit of parting of ways that started a month ago, and we took on Woodland/Causey in short order well before Bates actual decommitment. So while 1 of them was to replace Evans who we had already lost, the other was preemptive to replace Bates who they just didnt like as much.
Matt on the show went out about getting local guys (yes Woodland is south MS but close enough) to get get "dawgs", guys who really want to be here and lay it out for you. Johnson, Causey, Woodland and Foster all effectively local guys who really want to be here. And while the latter 3 arent ranked particuarly highly, you hope 1 or 2 of those guys develop into players in years 2 3 or 4 basically. If they're going to have some nice DBs on the field in the future it's basically going to be some local kids doing it again and they are trying to get back to that formula there. Remember, guys like McGlothern, Ricks, etc were non-local guys who just werent buying in. It's almsot as if they're doing a mini-culture rebuild in the secondary. Both safeties this class from LA as well.
I'm not defending anything, losing guys we did absolutely sucks in the end, but you cant hate what they're trying to do I think from a cultural standpoint in the secondary and make this about Louisiana again and pride in playing there.
The obvious downside to all of this is this will take years to happen and we need help literally next season. Hopefully guys like Welch/Stamps can take a next step and we get Zy back as well in terms of the corners. or JK gets healthy...or maybe we obviously have to hit the portal 1 more time for a starting corner, who knows.

I think in the transfer portal era, local talent is even more important. Because when players face adversity, it's easy for them to just go home. But if they are already home, or at least close, they have a support system in place.
LSU should always go after elite talent around the country, but the vast majority of the class should be from traditional recruiting footprint: Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, Florida panhandle.

He doesn't have much highlight film, but it looks like he has quick twitch and breaks on the ball well. He's also an aggressive and willing tackler. I can see him earning playing time after time in the S&C and with some developmen
Just from watching him, he looks a bit light. He seems to have everything else. Excited to get him on campus.

Here are the facts. If this class finishes the way it is now, then in 2 years we’ve signed one 3 star DT… maybe 2 if you count Breaux.
That would also give us one 4 star CB in Johnson, and five 3 star CBs.
Our issues at DT and CB pre-date the 2023 and 2024 recruiting classes, hence LSU taking transfers at those positions. You need to look back at the prior classes to find where those issues sprang.
This year the CB transfers didn't work out. Last year the transfers at a lot of positions were instrumental in bringing the team to the SEC championship game. Prepare for my transfer CBs this year.

Woodland has some of the most electric and instinctual film I have seen from the commits in this class. There's no way he shouldnt at least go up to a 4 star when the final rankings get here.

I’ll trust BK and his evaluations
I don't trust him with anything related to defense at this point.

I think Toviano locks down one of the CB spots next season. I've been impressed with him since he got playing time. I worry about Welch. He looks stiff and slow. It may be due to the ACLs and it may take more time for him to get 100% so maybe he's ready next season.

Toviano has looked solid as a true fresh at corner

Flott was a scare crow when he arrived at LSU and needed quite a bit of time to "weight-up".
And still managed to see the field in 14 games with one start in his true freshman season (2019).

He did but that was due to the lack of depth at CB after Corey sucked for a few years. Honestly Flott looked like a high-school kid playing (or trying to play) SEC big-boy football.
Not bashing just being honest and honesty is often brutal. He had the desire and speed, just way too light and I was fearful he would be injured at some point...

Flott was like 160 when he got to LSU which isnt as big a deal if you're a 5'9, 5'10 guy but he was a 6'1 guy so he was very thin. He was oozing with talent though and thats why he got some nice run with that 2019 title team, mostly in the slot/nickel position.
Even then he left LSU at only 175 pounds, just never put on much weight but he was impressive early on. He only allowed 8 catches on 25 passes that season thrown his way.

Underrated because he's a late riser and simply hasn't been fully evaluated by the sites. There is a very high chance he ends up as a consensus 4*. I think he played safety last year so that didn't help.

I know Causey camped at LSU so Kelly knows what he's getting as a person and an athlete. I'm not sure about Woodward. Did he camp at LSU?

Coach O O-line won the Joe Moore Award or have you forgotten?

They play Meridian tfriday and will be going against Daniel Hill the 4 star rb thats a dog. I will be at the game to see if OG can take home another win. Coach Boyles is a hell of a coach for meridian. Hes won titles at Taylorsville, Wayne County and had Petal always in the mix. We beat Meridian a couple weeks back 45-35. The OG defense couldnt stop Hill. Coach Causey is a decent coach not great or elite so it will be interesting to see this matchup friday. I think PJ is a better receiver than db. Hes good at both though. I will try and film him some and come back and post. #GOWARRIORS
My stepson will be in the HS program next yr. He plays WR/OLB we will see how he turns out in the next few yrs.

Not really, this happens all the time. Recruiting guys watch 15 mins of film and rank a kid.
Back in 2011, DeSoto High had two DB’s, the highest rated player, was a kid named Bryson Echols, he signed with UTx. Was at UTx for a couple years, not much playing time. Ended up transferring to Arizona State. Not much of a football career.
The lower rated DB on that same team, signed with LSU. He was the lowest rated position player in that signing class. One of the BTR reporters when asked who would play as a true freshman that year, his reply, I don’t know who plays, but he singled out the DeSoto players that would be Red-Shirted. Well, the DeSoto player ended up playing his true Freshman year. His freshman year he started all 13 games, his sophomore season also starting 13 games. He was drafted after his Senior season, 7th round. His rookie season, he played in 16 games, starting two. The following season he started all 15 games, they would go on to win the Super Bowl. He ended up playing 6 years in the NFL. That player was Jalen Mills.
Two players, one ranked very high, the other, not so much. Both had the same opportunity.

Sounds a lot like Flott was coming out of HS. Undersized, recruiting board wasn’t happy. They put weight on him and he was pretty good.

Saw him tonight… dude was fast and had moves.
