Prep Baseball Louisiana: 2027 State Rankings Update (August 2026)
August 19, 2026
Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

With the 2026 summer season officially in the books and a new school year right around the corner, it’s time for another update to our Louisiana state rankings. Throughout the summer, our staff had the opportunity to see a significant number of players and teams across the state at our showcase events and tournaments, giving us plenty of new information to evaluate.

Today, we kick off a month-long stretch of state rankings updates with the 2027 class. This latest update features several changes inside the Top 10, along with plenty of movers and shakers throughout the rankings, which have now expanded to 315 players. Be sure to follow us throughout the week across all of our social media platforms as we continue our coverage and break down the biggest risers, newcomers, and names to know in Louisiana’s 2027 class.

Louisiana 2027 Class: Top 10
RANK NAME SCHOOL CLASS POS COMMITMENT
1 Kade Luker Cedar Creek 2027 LHP/OF Louisiana State
2 Jordin Griffin Barbe 2027 OF/2B Louisiana State
3 Greyson Parker Mandeville 2027 RHP Ole Miss
4 Koa Romero Hahnville 2027 3B/RHP Louisiana State
5 Devyn Downs Sterlington 2027 RHP/3B Louisiana State
6 Lawton Littleton Barbe 2027 LHP Louisiana State
7 Jack Lee Alexandria Senior 2027 RHP Louisiana State
8 Cooper Hawkins St. Thomas More 2027 OF Southern Miss
9 Cameron Gangi St. Thomas Aquinas 2027 RHP Oklahoma
10 Kaleb Guarisco Hahnville 2027 1B/OF Louisiana Tech
Griffin is more like 5'7" 180# think Steven Milam but more muscular and crazy fast / athletic with lot of pop. Still has ways to go to develop as a hitter but the potential is there for sure. I don't think Samir or Luker make it to campus but as we've seen anything is possible. Romero can smash baseballs and is really starting to make strides on the mound, sits 92-94mph with really tight slider. With true 34 man rosters coming soon will be possible two way player. The 2027 class for LSU is very good if Jay is patient and allows them to develop which is very hard to do is today's college environment. Between the 2026 / 2027 class I'd be surprised if we don't make couple trips to Omaha
Louisiana 2027 class is loaded hence the top 6 ranked players in state committed to LSU. Lot of other top players in state for that class are committed to Southeastern, La Tech, NW LA, LSU Eunice, etc. The path to play in the SEC for the vast majority of players with portal and 5/5 rule is to start at JUCO / D2 or mid major and play your way into SEC. LSU is no longer a school where you can go and develop for 2-3 years and then be ready to roll. You will be replaced if it's not working after year or so.
I’d love to see combining select & non-select and go to 32 teams where you’d get a true state champion. Imagine some of the great matchups we’d see in the playoffs. Sadly I don’t see it happening so expanding 5A non-select is an idea but definitely need to cut the select side bc it’s ridiculous some of the teams that are making the playoffs

I think 5A Non-select is how the baseball playoffs should be. All 24 teams are highly competitive and on any given day can beat each other. That’s how it should be. The non-select lower seeds takes a big step back in competition and the Select side in all divisions is extremely top heavy with many teams in the playoffs that shouldn’t even be there. If your team is in 5A non-select, they better come with their A game every series bc it’s a dog fight. One thing I’d like to see changed is to stop having the finals in Sulphur. No offense to anyone that lives there but I’m sorry there are better destinations to hold the finals. Just my opinion
From what I heard Koa is going to be catcher for now on & used as a closer in pitching role. Hahnville started off 4-0 & has lost 5 straight mostly do to bad errors and only getting hitting from Guarisco, Romero, and Teague. They have some young talent that needs to start producing on varsity level but hasn’t happened yet. Destrehan is similarly built but has gotten a lot of production from their young guys. Long season so we will see if they can turn it around. Be a shame to waste those 3 in the lineup bc they can really hit
5A non-select looks to be a battle between WM, Barbe, Benton, Live Oak, and Sam Houston. Preseason those rosters look really good from a pitching / hitting standpoint. Be interesting to see if Barbe has enough arms to manage 3 game series every round of playoffs as the other 4 should have plenty. One sleeper team could be Hahnville who is loaded with young talent. Reality is they are probably year away from being serious contenders but keep an eye on them. On the select side, Catholic should be dominant again & Parkview Baptist has one of the deepest pitching staffs the state has seen in a while. Some really solid pitchers on that team. Should be a fun spring !!
Hahnville is looking very good preseason. Coach Boyne looks to have woken a sleeping giant. Hahnville should contend every year, just needed the right staff & it appears they have that in place.

Hahnville hires Greg Boyne, OC from Destrehan high as their new head coach. Any thoughts ?

Been to Isla Mujeres twice & loved it but just wanted to try something different & little more remote. We are staying at Villa Flamingo near Punta Mosquito. Wife & I are looking for a week of checking out away from internet, phones, hustle / bustle of the work grind & this island looked perfect.

How is the fishing? I've heard mixed reviews with the bass fishing, but I really enjoy catching sac a lait and perch more anyway. I've done some skiing on the lake but no fishing.

Seriously thinking of buying a lot on lake Bruin in the Tensas area. I was wondering if you guys had any experience on this lake. I've spent some time there and loved it. I won't build anything there for about 10 years when I near retirement and was curious of some of your opinions

I love the Toledo bend idea but it's almost 5 hours away and I could see that being too far to use all the time.

I would love to build on the gulf but don't want to deal with hurricanes. I plan to keep my house in New Orleans and want something 2-3 hours away that I can get to easily. We visited Big Bay Lake outside of Hattiesburg and it's really nice but very pricey. Not sure if we want to spend $150000 on just a lot. Was thinking about taking a ride to visit lake bruin

What are some good lakes in Louisiana / Mississippi areas to look at for buying property? I'm looking for something 2-3 hours from New Orleans with good fishing and boating. Any ideas ?

Anybody familiar with Big Bay Lake in Mississippi ? It's a Bill Dance certified private lake and the wife and I are going look at lots on the lake. Just wondering if anyone had any info

I agree that the coast is awesome for fishing, just not looking to deal with hurricanes. I've been looking a lot at Toledo Bend bc I've fished it and it's a very nice lake. Was just curious about places like caney lake or lake bruin in LA or lake eddins in MS
