Both players made a decision to leave long before the portal opened. The rules prevent coaches from making first contact directly with players, but they do not prevent players from reaching out to other teams. They also do not prohibit contact with intermediaries. There is no reason to expect that those players didn’t start putting out feelers as soon as they decided to leave. It’s not at all surprising that they would be close to closing the deal as soon as the portal opened.

I never said they out-recruited LSU thru the high school ranks, I said they had more talent, on defense, on the field, last year.

you literally said the talent disparity on the field is growing between the two. You said it like Ole Miss is increasing their talent at a rate faster than LSU. Clearly you have no fricking clue.

Ole Miss spent a boatload of money for one year and now they are going back to square one since all of them are gone. LSU lost three starting level DTs the year prior and had to scramble hard to patchwork a unit that had almost zero experience. This next year, without getting anybody out the portal, LSU's DT position has four very experienced players with a potential star in Dom McKinley. A big run stuffer in Guillory will man the position right beside him. Breaux and Suggs are right behind them. Shone Washington, who got some play time here, is our 5th guy. Kelly praised the physical readiness of Zion Williams. Whatever Ole Miss gets wont even fricking compare.

LSU needs a starting DE opposite Reliford, but Reliford is going to be a monster.

If Perkins comes back, nobody in the country will have a better linebacking unit.

I feel confident that if we get the Florida CB out the portal, Ole Miss wont be able to compare with him, Pickett, Woodland, Stamps, and Anding.

The only thing to really worry about is if we can get a top safety out the portal. That is a must more than anything else right now. Im not worried about OL. If we want OL, we can get it. Same with a blocking TE.

So kids can enter the portal yesterday through the end of the month. I would think some kids may be reluctant to jump from a good situation and that Kelly is waiting some time to see who else may be coming out. So if Kiffin signed two portal players and a better player from Mississippi entered the portal would he regret it if he spent the money necessary to sign the late entry. Let’s give this time as the better players outside of Mississippi are not signing with ole miss. LSU is a better option to the vast majority of these players and that’s why you see other better schools in consideration of the players we are interested.

Ole Miss was #17 in total defense, #2 in rushing defense and #1 in sacks in 2024. Most of the impact players on that defense were acquired thru the portal.

Good point. Can't over react since the portal just officially opened but if the staff is serious about upgrading both the talent & experience levels, this is the time to do so. They just can't continue to say so without any action. Still, let's be patient & see how this all shakes out before going into melt mode.
__________

This is where I am on this. This portal window will be telling about Kelly. Let's see what happens.

I agree and am not convinced that anyone who signs with ole miss is automatically someone we are interested. They are not now and never have been our equal. Unless they are from Mississippi there or have received a huge nil deal they are not going to ole miss over LSU.

That's 2 of the Top 7 in the transfer portal on the first day. Why are we letting that runt school beat us in the portal?

2 guys from Mississippi and 1 is only a top 7 because of his HS ranking.

Everyone tampers. Everyone.

But they seem to be the kings of it. Truly impressive.

We keep throwing around “worst bama team in a decade” like they’re aren’t 9-3 and didn’t beat UGA

I get that their record is their record & they fell just outside of the CFP but they laid up stinkers where they had bad offensive play in several wins.

USF (game was 14-13 going onto the 4th), 2nd half of UGA & a good portion of the 2nd & 3rd quarters vs USCe. The whole Bama team followed Milroe's lead this season by going to either extremely hot or cold.

That is NOT what you said. You left your statement broad because you don’t know shite and then tried to crawfish after being called out on it to make it look more reasonable.

And Ole Myth won’t have more talent on defense after our current recruiting class and whatever we bring in through the portal this offseason. They just lost most of their top talent on that side and they didn’t have the depth there that they do on offense. They are desperate for a reason.
