Actually Miles lost top La players to Saban consistently. At least Surtain was not a La player.

Damn you are so correct, I knew I was putting too much emphasis on Top 5 recruiting classes. I mean why would you equate Bama's national titles over the past 10 years to their recruiting rankings. I mean in the past 10 years they have closed with a top 3 class or better and seven #1 classes. You are so right what the frick is Saban even doing working so hard.

And McElroy was such a stud at QB for Bama he is now reporting for ESPN.

You and anyone else that doesn't think recruiting class rankings don't matter are fricking idiots!!! I mean obviously the coaches whose jobs are on the line think they matter so why shouldn't we?

if you think Nick Saban or any coach worth half a shite goes on Rivals.com. Sabean is like "I have been coaching football for about 40 years but what Mike Farrell and Tom Luginbil think is what counts"

Remember for the past 10 years BAMA has been #1 in recruiting and ended the season #1 or #2?

15 in shitty in recruiting? I guess you don't know much so I'll educate you. Clemson had the #15 recruiting class and beat Bama for a national title. Why don't you just admit you don't have faith in the HC. We have top notch coaches on the defensive side to get these kids playing better.

This is just a lazy straw man argument. The people complaining here see the ranking as systemic of the real problem- gross mismanagement of the close of this recruiting class. There was no excuse to end up with no CBs, and to be left chasing a QB that you only had an outside shot at in the end.

The fact is, we were on target for a better ranking had we ended up Goodrich and Chase. People wouldn’t be nearly as upset if that had happened, but our staff flat out botched it. There is just no escaping that fact.

Absolutely not, I fully assume Saban doesn't look at star rankings he evaluates each player. What I am saying is RANKINGS do matter because obviously you have to be a pretty damn good player to be ranked a 5 star by the major recruiting services. And since I would assume most programs want "good players" it does matter what their rankings are in general. Doesn't mean a 5 star can't be a bust, or a 3 star won't get drafted in the 1st round. What it means is that for the most part the upper rated athletes are usually the better players at their position and most coaches want the better players. Simple as that!!! You dumbass!!!!

Why do you do a quick experiement, take the rolling recruiting averages of the top 10 recruiting classes and see if they correlate with the top 10 teams.

Spoiler alert, they correlate well.

Before they beat Bama they also had classes ranked 6th and 4th.

He's just talking out of his arse, he has no clue what's actually going on. Like how he mentions the importance of QBs and doesn't realize 0 didn't sign any of those either.

We had a top 12-14 class depending on the service. For people to act like that is the end of the world is ridiculous, especially when the big guys we loaded up on are rarely 5 stars. We had a good haul and have two extra spots for a loaded class in state next year.

As the Op stated, people put too much stock into recruiting rankings and your post proves it but in the opposite spectrum. It's about context not just overall rankings.
We got RBs, WRs, OL, DL and LB. Great job by the staff. But when you put the overall ranking into context you must see that we have 2 glaring holes. Qb and CB. Qb because we have been horrible at scouting and developing them so we can't afford to not rake one in any class. CB because we have 4, 5 I'd you count Joseph. Of those 5 you've got
Greedy, who's a stud with experience
Vincent who's good and has experience but as a nickel so we don't really know how he will do man to man on the outside
Kirklin who no one knows shite about and has no experience
Fulton who has no experience and we are banking in the NCAA reducing a 2 year suspension based on an NCAA administered drug test. Good luck with that
Joseph who we wanted as a S but can play CB but again no experience.
See the holes in the class now? It's a strong group overall and the rankings detail that but they do not tell the whole story. We fricked up and to make it worse, Ed tried to explain it and came off as completely over his head in regards to roster management. It's OK to be a good fan and offer constructive criticism. Some of us just don't communicate it well because if emotion.

A superstar QB helped a little. Does LSU have someone like Watson?
