re: Most of you put way too much stock in recruiting rankings

So we have elite CBS and still lost to Bama. What's your point?
My point is we'll lose by a bigger margin with less talent at cb. Are you seriously arguing that having a weak cornerback roster isn't terrible for a defense?

Losing Surtain was bad, man. You can spin it however you want, but he's been a big LSU fan since he was a kid, his family is from Louisiana and we've led for him for 2.5 years. For Saban to swoop in at the final hour, having just replaced his secondary coach, is brutal. If we can't close THAT kid, I have serious doubts we can close any top national recruits from out of state.
And the way the staff handled Goodrich was poor. Nobody thought we had much chance with Foster, so why was the staff so willing to turn Goodrich away without a commitment from Foster, first?
Add to that, we're extremely shallow at corner next year, and we missed on our only target with absolutely no contingency plan.
Oh, then we find out Fulton's 2018 season is in jeopardy too? And the plan was STILL to only sign one corner?
Jeez. In my mind, today was a total clusterfrick. And I'm about as optimistic as it gets around here...at least with the people who have any semblance of objectivity.

I didn't say it wasn't important. Mo Claiborne was a 3 star so I guess he sucked. Don't assume the guys we currently have on this team can't get the job done or the guys we just signed.

Sure moron. Skip over the national championship, the return to the national championship game and the most wins in the history of LSU.
You are a clown. Recruiting is key and yes if you have high rankings every year you have a BETTER shot.
Shitty recruiting spirals out of control fast. You guys hated Miles so good luck with the new Curley Hallman era.

Define weak? So you are saying DBU is weak at CB?

We just lost 2 first day draft picks and replaced them with no one. If Fulton isn't eligible I would say that CB will be a weak spot. As good as Williams is you need a solid #2.

But to act as if they aren't important is stupid.
One thing defensive backs can definitely do for you is lose games. If our #2 corner is weak then it's pitch and catch all day for any QB worth a damn. One thing you definitely don't want on defense is a glaring weakness in your secondary. Especially at corner.
Yep. You think Georgia wouldn't have liked an upgrade over Parrish in the championship game? Alabama exploited him time and again.

#15 in shitty in recruiting? I guess you don't know much so I'll educate you. Clemson had the #15 recruiting class and beat Bama for a national title. Why don't you just admit you don't have faith in the HC. We have top notch coaches on the defensive side to get these kids playing better.

Could have had Goorich to soften the blow but Orgeron put a stop to that. The kid wanted to commit but we gotta wait for the long shot qb. frick.
That might be the straw that breaks I'd back.
I want to win regardless who the HC is, but dumb is dumb.

Pretty clear that you aren't that bright. You started a thread about recruiting rankings not being that relevant. We are pointing out that you were correct with that statement but missing on position of need is a concern. Now you're the one obsessing over recruiting rankings. Feel dumb yet?

How many games we won single handily because of a CB? None
PP7 and I think you're retarded.

Who the hell gave you that little tidbit? LSU hasn’t even sniffed #2 in recruiting in almost a decade!!!
You been sniffing glue?

What guys that we just signed??? We didn't sign 1 CB, not a 5 star, 4 star, 3 star. None. Right now we have 3 eligible CB's with at least 1 going pro next year. We were paper thin going into this. How the program could decide to not take any available CB's outside of Surtain is just plain stupid.

But as the op brilliantly pointed out we just need better QB play. Good thing we didn't sign one of those either!

Give me 4 and 5 stars all day over 3 stars and walk ons. You will hit a stud 3 star once in awhile. But you will have quality players all day with 4 and 5 stars.

Greedy, Joseph, Kirklin, Fulton, Paris, Vincent. That is ridiculous talent and depth. I feel like Im fricking taking crazy pills with some of you on this site. We lost a guy to national champs, so did everyone else in the country. It literally came down to us and Bama. Not Ohio St, not Georgia, not Clemson. Us and Bama. We have plenty enough depth.
Posted on 2/8/18 at 12:27 am to Bayoufightingtiger
Not one CB in this class... NOT ONE!!! And we're supposed to be DBU? Cut the rainbows and unicorns shite.

Paris graduated.
Xavier Lewis is transferring.
Fulton may or may not play in 2018.
Greedy, Vincent, Kirklin, Joseph. After that it's position changes or walk-ons.
There's talent, but not depth.
