Foot injury. He was starting get get momentum with the starting lineup ala Jase Richardson the year before but the foot injury derailed his season before he was able to really get comfortable and make a splash.

Someone make the "Keenan Thompson - Steve Harvey" meme where the answers are all the names of the new players.

Solid pickup considering what was left in the portal. He got great coaching last season under Izzo, but Michigan State didn't want to guarantee more playing time to him for the '26/27 season. Has 22 starts split b/w Miami and Michigan State, but had last season cut short by a foot injury.
Really cut down on his turnovers last season vs. his FR year, but didn't generate many assists for a PG that doesn't shoot much. Also, improved his defensive play last season at Michigan State. The advanced analytics don't like him with EM rating him 869 last season, and most ranking services didn't have him among the Top 200 portal players.
He's not an NBA draft threat, so Wade should be able to get two seasons out of him. The NIL era data show that transfer players typically excel in their 2nd year in a system, and one of the better predictors of a team's success is the number of player minutes returning from the prior season.
Expect him to continue to improve defensively, and it will be interesting to see if Wade can leverage his career 50% shooting into more points (career 5.2 pts/g)

Why does it seem like every player has low PPG averages?
Posted on 5/7/26 at 5:09 pm to Seeker
Low usage rates combined with limited minutes. Some, if not all of the international players averages will look less than overwhelming due to age and limited time with the big clubs they are with.
For many if you look at either their domestic league competition averages or their last year or two in the lower leagues, would give a better picture of what kind players coming over you are getting statistically.

I would assume him to be a quality depth player with experience. We’ll need to see who else gets picked up before we can assume his role. He’s athletic, low volume set shooter but great 3pt percentage at mich st. He’s bad free throw shooter for a guard especially.

For point of reference Luka Doncic avg 13 ppg in 2018 with Real Madrid. In 2019 he avg 21 ppg as a rookie for the Mav's.
I know it's one of those extreme examples but you get the point.

Yeah that seems to stick out a bit to me as well. A bunch of 5 and 4 PPG dudes might be great at defense but who is going to score the rock? I trust Wade but this is so different it does rattle the nerves.

Is he cross-eyed? And people think he is going to start?

I’m worried about the low scoring averages, but that was against Euroleague pros, which is a higher level of competition. I’m hoping that they’ll be better against younger NCAA players.

He went from shooting 17% to 44% 3PT and he cut his turnovers by half. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect he can improve there as well. He really hasn’t shot a ton of free throws. 10-18 last season. I like that his athleticism and body control make him capable of finishing around the rim. But if he continues to shoot poorly from the free throw line, utilizing those tools may not be worthwhile. It’s definitely something he’ll have to improve on.

This gives you a good idea of him as a player. Long and can get to the rim. Great on defense.
