Don’t want the kid because we don’t need a project..:but the shooter thing is so predictable ??.

Brother if you want to die on the hill that we don’t need any “more” shooters… i must let you perish.

Brother…we are dead already.
This team had 1,000,000 holes.
So how do you want to die? I would rather go 4/16 from 3 in a loss while improving elsewhere, rather than relying on the 3. This thread is a 90% “no matter who we get we have McMahon as coach”. I fully believe we have guys who have shooting potential and need to step up. Yea, would love Kennard, but elite P4 shooters don’t transfer really. What are you expecting? I just want a competitive chance. We have that right now.
So I guess this is where it comes in to play….what do we expect from this roster as is? I think people have been so critical and say it sucks. People do NOT like the team built. Sounds like my expectation as an 8-10 seed should be lower? We don’t have players to compete for the tourney. Fair?

I think nobody has a clue on how these transfers are truly going to translate to the SEC outside of Nwoko, and he was ok.
Let’s all just trust in the process and hope McMahon can figure it out. Not going to hold my breath but the fog should be clear for everyone after this year

Yea, that’s my point. This thread is filled with insane negativity.
Posters are in a weird spot. So many have said all these dudes suck…then others say the coach sucks.
Fyi- St Johns was 340th in 3p%. LSU was 335th.
We are not going to ever be Alabama, but we can be as good and different. I guess if we want to win the natty we need a steph, but I just want to play in mid March

Its not relying on the 3 as much as what reliable shooting can do for what has otherwise been a stagnant offense.

I do like the additions and would say that’s a reasonable expectation.

So I’m critical of McMahon. Not confident more money fixes coaching issues. I was happy/optimistic with transfers they signed. I’m concerned that the early trend hasn’t continued. My hope/enthusiasm has been waylaid by perceptions of stalling out. The dudes signed I believe equate to similar rankings on paper as previous classes where I’ve also been optimistic and then grow angry and disgusted over course of the season.i feel like you’re trying to pass the buck on criticism where product for whatever reason deserves it.

Why can’t we be Alabama? They’ve been shite in basketball most of my life.

I think this class is going to be a little better, but it’s super subjective, we will see.
Thomas and Sutton are legit, and we have a fair surrounding cast so far.
Thankfully, McMahon should have an easier SEC slate next year, so the signs are really pointing up for him. If we’re fringe NCAAT team next year, the odds of him ever taking us to the next step are almost nonexistent

This. We’ve fallen so far, so quick, that Alabama basketball is an unattainable goal to fans. They hired a coach from Buffalo who was 6 years removed from coaching HS to get them where they are, and we somehow think it’s not possible to have that level of success.

It is definitely unattainable with this clown we have for a coach !!

We CAN be as good as any program in the SEC. We have the resources and history to put up against any team except UK and, since 2006, UF.
Wade said he desired the LSU position so badly because he looked at UF’s athletic department and said there is no reason LSU couldn’t have a similar program. He may have led us there, but of course what happened happened.
The point is LSU HAS to hit on a coach like UF did with Golden, Bama with Oats or take a stab at rehabbing a coach like Pearl, Barnes or Sampson (which I don’t think will happen under “squeaky-clean Woodward). Unfortunately McMahon isn’t going to be it I’m afraid.
My fear is McMahon puts together a class to do just enough (NCAA 1st round ext?) to hang on another year and delay the needed restart.
All that said this thread has gone off the rails of its original portal tracking and become a bash McMahon negativity thread. As an LSU fan all I can do is hope to be wrong. And I’m pulling for CMM to make me look stupid. Because when LSU basketball is good it’s fun as shite, and the world is a better place for me.
So it’d be nice if we could just appreciate tigerham’s kindness in providing a thread to follow portal news and perhaps take negativity to another thread?

Thing is, some of the “negativity” isn’t even that. How dare anyone want to see a consistent shooter or 2 added to what has been a decent haul?
Now the comment above you definitely qualifies as negative.

I’m with you.
And that guy is an obvious troll and just needs to be ignored.

Yeah, with a hall of fame coach that knows exactly what he is doing. He built that team to play defense and to drive the lane on offense.
That offense got exposed in the tournament. There are many ways to build a team.

To add to this, they were an elite offensive rebounding team. Not that unsimilar to Wade teams here. He knew if they were going to miss the 3, they would grab a lot of the board opportunities from that, and they did.
The issue is in their first game they actually shot well from 3 for a change (38%) and blew out their opponent. When a team cant shoot then suddenly shoots a good percentage at a high rate, they will likely blow out the other team when they do their other things well still.
But then in the 2nd round they couldnt shoot (2 for 22 for 3) and the offensive rebounding kept them in it, but they still lost by 9 to a much lower seeded Ark team.
Shooting is important, I dont think that can be denied. No you dont have to shoot 38% as a team to make a tourney run or something, but its been shown time and time again the best teams that rise to the top generally speaking can shoot at a decent clip at least.
We got extremely lucky this past year Cam Carter's shooting improved dramatically because he was not a good shooter prior to coming here. If he shot his more normal clip, we would have been sub 30% shooting team from 3 last season, which is like, really really bad for a major conf team. Every team that shot under 30% from 3 this past season was a mid-major.

So who were your 3 point shooters last year?
Reed and Ward would have been big contributors. Reed on mre of % basis than volume but both shot well from 3 but did not play most or all of the year. So you have Carter an Sears. Carter improved and Sears regressed mainly due to size and physicality of SEC. Then you had 2 freshmen , VMiller who was very inconsistent and Givens who was also inconsistent and both struggled with the physicality of the SEC as most freshmen do. Hopefully the improvement in size and maturity will help with our 3 point % this year. Coaching doesn't help make a wide open 3 which we missed too many of last year. Also having bigs that can score down low will open up shots as there will be times they will need to be double teamed as Reed was many times last year before being injured. aA well as open up the middle with bigs that can shoot and have to be guarded away from the lane which will open it up. No one came out and guarded Collins or Chest 12 foot out or more. Defense packed it in.No driving room in lane. Talent makes coaching better and easier.
