Odyssey Sims was a dynamic scoring point guard, known for her aggressive style and ability to take over games—much like what we see from Ta'Niya Latson today. On the other hand, Hines brings a different flair to the backcourt. She’s more of a true shooting guard, with a game reminiscent of Kara Lawson—smart, poised, and efficient—but with noticeably quicker footwork and a faster first step. Of all the players, she’s the one I’m most excited about. Her combination of IQ, speed, and scoring ability could make her a serious problem for opposing defenses.

Well, depending on how you define point guard, to me she looked more like one than anyone else on the floor other than Chavez, and she subbed in an out with Chavez throughout the game. The former WNBA announcer called her a point guard and floor general, and Bella seems to be one who actually WANTS to get her teammates involved, looking for their potential openings first and anticipating where they'll be for a pass before looking to jack up her own shot. That made her stand out from everyone else in this all-star game where all anyone else did was just jack up shots as soon as they touched the ball so they could get their own, especially Chavez.
However, if Bella had a clean look she didn't hesitate to shoot which I really liked because the past two years we've had point guards who looked gun shy to shoot with MW and FJ on the wings. And Bella was a sniper. Didn't take it to the hoop that much. She's quick but not sure she's lightning fast like some others.
She is tenacious on defense, and the announcers praised her for that because they watched a lot of film on her and the other players. She held her own defensively in this game, even against Zakiyah Johnson, her future teammate who is three inches taller, down low. It should also be noted that the few times that Chavez didn't jack up a shot she was being guarded by Johnson who is very quick and tall and cut her off, forcing her to pass.
As point guards go, as good as Chavez is, one difference I observed is that Bella, an excellent passer, WANTS to pass the ball when a teammate is open, whereas Chavez, an electric scorer who sometimes makes highlight reel passes, DOES NOT WANT to pass the ball, even with teammates open. You could see the frustration on her face when she had to give it up. Chavez is an incredible talent, but watching this game made me see how she's definitely a "me first" player who loves the stats. I can see why the other girls didn't want to play with her. Grace Knox and Divine Bourrage on her team barely got to touch the ball when they were open. I'm even more excited about the future after watching this game.

jak mwenentanda just entered the portal out of texas.
she's a pretty decent post player! but i guess with the super bigs that vic has coming in, she may not get as much playing time.

i only got to watch a few minutes but Aaliyah Chavez looked like a ball hog. I watched her team have about 10 possessions and it seemed like she took 7 shots.
She does have that reputation and it is rumored that this is the reason that three of our current recruits didn't want to play with her. If we'd gotten her, at least three of them were probably not coming to LSU.

Yeah, watched the game this morning, and I agree with everything you said. Bella is definitely a floor general. Not a flashy passer, but is a pass-first team-player, which wil fit in perfectly with the multiple scorers on the roster. And after watching highlights of her scoring in the 50s & 60s, we know she can light up the scoreboard, like she did when open in the JBC.
And after hearing a local interview in N.M. where Bella told the reporter when she gets to LSU, her main goal is to win a championship but individually, she wants to break Poa's charge-taking record. She said she loves taking charges. That's a selfless defender. And of course, she even took one in the JBC game. Kim's got a good one.
Everything you said about Chavez is right, in that she is seemingly a ball hog and makes it easy to imagine she would've been a deterent to get other recruits to follow her here. With that said, she is a bonafide talent. Without even trying, being a shoot-first/pass-second PG, Chavez still had more assists than anyone else in the game (5). She also had 5 steals with her 24 pts.
Now, I need to see more of Bourrage. I saw ZaKiyah & Knox stand out in the McDonald's game. I was very impressed with Bella in the JBC. Now, it's Bourrage's turn to show her stuff in an all-star game. It's only fair.

Good for Poa. Always liked her. Very supportive of her teammates. Unselfish, total team player. Wish her the best. Hope she will be able to start at PG.

She literally just visited (left Friday night). Not everyone commits immediately during the visit. Many may want to go home and discuss with their families before making final decision. She visited UNC the week prior. And there is some uncertainty if the UConn visit is still on or not.
Morrow committed like a week after visiting LSU, HVL around like 2 weeks.

The best players in the portal normally don't commit immediately. It's not unusual, it takes time when you have top programs aggressively pursuing you. This will be her one year, her final year, it's reasonable she wants to talk it over with her family. She wants to make the best decision.

For whatever reason, this didn’t crystallize for me until yesterday. Maybe because the portal is such a recent thing, I’ve just never really thought about it. Of course, I’m familiar with top high school recruits taking their time, but portal recruits at every level of talent almost always take more time to decide than do HS recruits do on average.
I say all this because yesterday I was watching a Bella Hines interview and when they were discussing Bella’s first call from Mulkey, she said it was her dream scenario to play for LSU/Kim and wanted to commit on that first phone call. She even wanted to commit on arrival for the first day of the visit, but the family agreed to wait until the last day before leaving the visit.
It occurred to me that immediate commitments rarely happen in portal decisions. Even the bottom tier portal entrants seemingly take their time on their second go-round, which obviously makes sense to do so. Duh.

I thought Rosario was headed to VT? What happened, she changed her mind last minute? This is a surprise staying in the SEC. She will have the same issues slow footedness, keeping up with physicality and speed of SEC.
Posted on 4/21/25 at 3:31 pm to Sonofthetruth
Wow I never thought we would be an option.
Posted on 4/21/25 at 4:07 pm to LSUVT
Rosario is from NYC, the Bronx. She played senior HS year in TN, because her HS in NJ closed down. She still has family in NYC. She visited VT, thought she would be good fit at VT and ACC. She will have same issues in SEC even if different team--lack of physicality, aggressiveness, and speed.
