Thomas Perry was signed by LSU

3* but 18th overall in state and 36th OT nationally. Similar offer list except for LSU, but not really in the same ballpark as the other guys, who were all much off the radar.

My son (Mackey Maillho) fits the same mold as Torrence and others - 6-8, 350 lbs, 3*, few offers, no high rankings, etc.

here's to hoping he can keep the trend going

One of the reasons I would have liked to see Napier at LSU (not to the exclusion of anyone else) is that he (and Sale) have a track record of identifying underrated OL talent and developing them.

Every recruit here from ULL had an offer list at a ULL level. To say Napier knew what these guys were and would have recruited them no matter what school he was at is ridiculous.

He recruited a Louisiana kid that had no LSU offer. That's exactly what 99% of all ULL recruits are likely to be. I don't believe he has some special talent eval that no one else does.

The premise stated by others is that LSU missed on these kids. That assumes they were on LSU's radar to begin with, and they simply weren't. Napier clearly saw something others didn't, and it's not a stretch to think that trend will continue at UF.

He's putting guys in the pros and P5 schools who barely had G5 offers. I'd say he does.

I'm not sure if you were talking about me, but I mentioned that the LSU staff missed on some of these kids, and I don't think that them not being highly recruited is an excuse. Coaches making millions should be able to evaluate talent like Torrence, regardless of what the guys at Rivals or 247 think. Perhaps Mitchell was a guy they thought was a project, because I think he was a little skinny coming out of high school, but Torrence was a freaking grown man (and dominant).

I absolutely agree with you that you have to give Napier and/or Sale some credit for finding these underrated guys.

He’s got a Michigan State offer.

Nobody better than Mel Tucker at recognizing “plug and play” assets in the portal.

He’d be a nice and needed pickup for LSU.

Mathieu was NOT a 3 star on any recruiting service

Neither was Justin Jefferson, but give him a break, he got the average right.

He was recruited (UGA offer) but he likely wasn't in an open $ bidding war

Offer came in late!! And you maybe right about the bidding war!! But he earned his time and the attention he is getting so I like everyone else will sit back and watch and wait! But knowing the family he comes from it will be about more than money

Kids get significantly stronger from 18-22 (they don’t peak until 27) whereas speed and quickness seem to peak much earlier.

Imo it is not much of a leap that the star rankings are a lot on projections and some of these bigs can easily outperform their projections with hard work in the weight room.
