Interesting how other “LSU fans” on this board that seem to revel in the perceived lack of recruits are absent from this thread. Says a lot in my opinion.

Some of this info is promising, but as OP, not all of this will happen & there is some risk involved.

At the end of the day there are no other recruits committed & given the timing, you lack true backup plans if some of these bigger pieces fall through. There simply isn’t enough good players to make up a tournament team, at that point.

Yep sorry guys for the long responses. Just I will be as honest and blunt as possible. If Will is able to pull off just two of the 6 I listed. Let alone if he gets his hands on 3 or 4. This team will be loaded, as in with no hyperbole would say.

Wing = Much larger version of Howard Carter day one in Niang
Wing = Better defender this year, not as good of a scorer but nearly as impactful of player as Rudy Macklin in Bagayoko
Wing = Much larger in both size and the way he plays but would be better even for one year at LSU than Tasmin Mitchell was.
Post = More skilled than Hot Plate Williams was at LSU, better ball handler and can run in Fernandez.

Of the over 1,500 international/foreign players only 9 fall into the category of current actual Euroleaguers/Top Flight Domestic Euro Cup players. LSU was in on 6, two rejected not because of money but because they haven’t either declared for an NBA draft or the parent team wouldn’t sell their rights for any reasonable amount of money right now. So, maybe I sound like a fanboy but okay, what made the entire basketball establishment really come after Wade, was in his first year at LSU until the end. He started going big game hunting at the exact same type basketball institutions his first stint at LSU. The Caliparis, Pitinos, Coach Ks, Roy Williams, Bill Self, and oddly enough the two that really sold him out and kept beating the drum were Jim Boheim and Leonard Hamilton because of only a player each they werent going to get if LSU didn’t get them. Wade a true basketball outsider to them, was a manger in college. They couldn’t understand how a non athlete, non traditional coach who came up under Oliver Prunell, Tommy Amaker, and Shaka Smart those kinds of coaches. Went in to the Oak Hills, Montverdes, Brewster/NE Prep Powerhouses, NJ/NY Catholic Leagues, and the Texas metro preps and just took the biggest recruits. So what about “strong arse offers” they all did it. But as others said look they were late getting a staff, it’s not as easy for all that has happened at LSU for a brand new staff to pull together $5-$7 and they missed on their big targets like PJ Haggerty out of the gate, they missed.

So he pivoted, instead of overpaying for the top portal guys who are still not as sure of a bet as these 6 to win big now. Like all of his recruiting classes if he just gets one, like a Trendon Watford, Javonte Smart, Naz Reid, Cam Thomas he can make this first team competitive, then build. In 27’ of the Top 25 HS recruits LSU could be a contender to sign 4 or 5 Top 20 HS guys. But to me he said f it. Those 9 weren’t actually expecting to get signed by a college team. Wade will be the first. Everyone in college basketball will be big mad. Then they will do it if he is able to pull it off and follow suit starting next year. Then the flood gates will really open, you could see when Luka was 17 or 18, or Ricky Rubio when he was 17, or a Darko Millic or Andrei Kirelienko those types of players will now be available. They are complicated deals with this level of player, talking about a non-professional basketball club getting “rights” to players, hell one has been drafted already by an NBA team and another will enter in 27’. It’s not just the fee to the team, the NIL deal to the players, but the timing of it, they are in the middle of Euroleague or Domestic Championships in Spain and Israel. Lastly the biggest issue for both Santos and Fernandez is their NBA undrafted clocks will they stop, not that would play in the NBA in the next 2-3 years but all 4 could if they want to in their 25-29 ages. Niang is a done deal to LSU if actually is serious about coming over to the states they got him for a steal probably $2-3 million less than asking or market value.

If he didn’t try this, the team still would have been better than any of McMahons 4 teams, but this is an opening to build a mini super team. Not even counting Graves being an LSU solid commit if he doesn’t go pro. Kyree Walker will have to decide if he wants to take one year of college fun and a good bit of money and his young daughter live in the state for a year, but he is getting older he knows and needs to find a pro league and get contracted out or will bounce around year to year for the next 12 years, and end up at 36 or 37 playing in Uruguay or South Korea.

Maybe. Also could juts be the difference between and actual credentialed reporter and a message board guy with a source. The message board guy can anonymously report whatever he hears without worrying about being correct or burning bridges. A guy who reports for a living has to protect his sources and has to vet what they say.

It’s also possible this thread is a bunch of BS and we are all getting trolled. I don’t think that’s the case but it very well could be. Anything Shea shares is legitimate and there is no chance you are getting trolled.

Nah Shea is great, for a non-basketball school (Albeit why LSU basketball is my personal number one of all Tiger Sports) we have 3-4 really really good reporters, not just with connections to the staff, but honestly us not being a Duke, UK, or even the B tier programs like Bama, Florida, Oregon, and say Gonzaga if it wasn’t the only sport at the school. They do a great job, it’s just I was able to talk to them and they will talk, pretty much to anybody it’s not a secret. Just if you are a beat reporter, you can’t even share how would you, if a coach or day to day basketball staffer even tells you directly “on the basketball record” we are going big game hunting and it may take until after the fall semester starts for them to even get here on campus, and even if the deal is agreed upon, they could choose to come or not, the team holds them hostage, a thousand things can happen halfway around the world that LSU and the staff have no control and no recourse. Maybe Jordy C would but it’s not as if Scott Rabalais, Shea, or Jacque would report in any real way hey our brand new/old fired coach, is trying to set up in some way wiring a bunch of money in escrow to the Canary Islands, then get the Cleveland Cavaliers to sign off on it, and have the player agree in writing to pay the difference in the NIL and any future NBA contract they might sign, oh and one of the fours head coach is basically his quasi agent and wants to be paid, let alone the coaches and players on these guys teams are probably breathing down their necks in the middle of their playoffs which over there count because of the bonuses for a large part of their pay.

I will say not hedging in any way or guaranteeing it’s a risk, one I would take, I would put the odds we get 1 of these 5 foreigners if you include Walker at 25%, getting two I would put right now today at 10% and anything after that %5. Odds would rise dramatically if just one jumps ship for the first time in CBB this way. Maccabi I would put at less than 3% until they let him sign and they agree, then still less than 50% until he physically got on a plane and got over here. Graves I think would be more inclined in a small way if one of them was on board. Still think it’s 60-40 our way Graves ends up a Tiger regardless. Walker would put at 40% right now. He will have problems on the school side that would have to be done away with and ignored.

So based on your percentages, you don’t think it’s likely we get any of the Europeans? If I’m reading it right, you think getting one Euro is only at 25%.

I agree with most of your post but I found one mistake.

You said in regards to strong arse offers "they all did it."

I used to naively believe that most if not all successful coaches cheat, but I've been set straight by an EYBL coach on the rant.

He told me a lot of coaches recruited the right way pre NIL. I was informed in particular, that Jay Wright, Tony Bennett, and Mark Few have NEVER CHEATED, because they always recruited properly unlike that retrobate Will Wade who we made a mistake in rehiring.

Would you like a chance to amend your statement that all the successful coaches cheat?

This is correct. Wade was the only coach paying players before NIL. Nobody else was cheating.

So with what I know about this and others have said it’s foreign basketball. So definitely do not want to be a poster that build it up as if they are done deals. If this were two or three of the 27’ top HS recruits would tell you with 80% certainty we are getting the ones we want and are in amazing shape. What I am saying is in 3 of the 4 true foreign players we are in we are either the only horse left in the race or so far ahead of the one or two other teams in what it takes to get them over. So for say Fernandez, I would again put it at 40% we get him right now, as in 40% he ends up a Tiger playing in the PMAC. 90% chance though he either ends up being a Tiger or does not pay in college for anyone in the states next year. What I am saying just getting one these four would be huge, each alone would have been the number one player in the transfer portal alone if each individually was transferring and just in the portal but with the same age, experience, athleticism and advanced skills. I am saying I understand the risk putting in the effort to even try i’m fine with not getting them and the team being worse with what’s left, because if we weren’t going after those 4, and just recruiting from what’s available in the portal now. The 2026-2027 team is not going to be much worse if we wait even longer and lose more potential targets that will sign elsewhere to me it’s risk-reward.

“A lot” is subjective.

Prove they cheated.

It’s unfair to criticize said coaches without evidence outside of your own beliefs. All because you are defending a coach that in fact did get caught.

You have a “guilty until proven innocent mentality”. It’s a shame.
