With Iveys comment to AM I think more 4 star and 5 star kids from Texas are using LSU to leverage higher nil deals from AM & Texas. We need to be a little more suspicious about a kids verbal comments and watch his actions. Just food for thought.

Why does it matter? You do what you can and recruit who you really want and let the chips fall where they may. Ivey was an Aggie lean anyway. These are texas guys you speak of

You don't think LSU already knows before anyone else? Let them focus their resources where they think they need it not some random post on the recruiting board just because they get feelings hurt when a kid uses LSU as leverage.

Folks are acting like we don’t have a top ten class and a superb quarterback.

It seems they let the really good commits just fall through their minds and shite.

It’s year two of the bk era. Calm down.

The way I see it is, you either get a player you want or you make another teams boosters wallets hurt… either is a win.

A coach knows his chances of getting a player. If he doesn’t, he’s in the wrong profession. Some you recruit, only knowing, you’ll never get them. Many, you know, he’s buying into your vision, that’s the ones you want. Some play games, they won’t be there when you need them. Some, the Dad or someone else makes the decisions. Too many things come into play when recruiting.

Sit down and talk with a few coaches, the stories they tell. One former LSU player, you had to go through the town preacher, he looked after the kids, made sure their well being was involved. One player, you get a call out of the blue, “I’m coming to LSU!”
Some kids, the head coaches wife, sold them on the Tigers.

With kids, at times, you never know. But you better have a feel. Your job depends on it. Kelly’s time in this profession, tells me, he’s seen it all. Seldom will something shock you.

Still a ways till signing day.

You're absolutely right. I'll inform the coaches to not go as hard for Texas guys. Just keep recruiting visit nonchalant like...

or maybe we need to be more leary like...

Drive the price up. Makes it more sweet when they still suck.

Wickline sees film on a 5 star recruit. He visits this recruit and then begins to grind him to see how he'll react. The fans are all in a flutter. We all hear that Texas is interested in a 5 star! Wickline's questions and attitude turn this player off somewhat. He is used to coaches coming in and fawning over him. What's with this Wickline dude, anyway? Joe rubs the kid the wrong way. Arms are crossed across the chest. The kids begins to stare out the window while Joe is talking. Later on that day he verbally commits to another school. The fans are gnashing their teeth and cutting their wrists. Reporters are shaking their heads and rattling their keypads.

Meanwhile Joe heads out to a small school in the middle of nowhere where his old friend coaches, to see an unknown kid that the friend sent Joe film of. Lots of things Wickline saw on the film jumped out for him. The feet, the quickness, the violet punch, the balance, the relentlessness ..the mean streak. Joe sees his old friend at the corner of the football field. He is dwarfed by a raw boned rangy kid with a huge head, tree trunk neck, wide shoulders, and feet the size of kayaks. Wickline smiles and put out his hand. As they shake hands, Wickline notices that the player's hands are far larger than his own catcher's mitts. Joe says something nice about the kid's film. The kid nods. and then Joe says something derogatory. He looks up quickly. The kid has reacted by ripping his hand away from Joe's grip, and now the kid has a menacing look about him, staring darts into Joe's eyes. The kid has just taken a step closer to Joe, and is noticeably angry. Joe laughs and begins to calm this volcano down, and then begins establish a warm and friendly relationship with this kid; he's worth his weight in gold. By the end of the day Joe has seen enough. He is now addressing this kid as "Son", and sees that the kid responds. He offers this kid. He has a low 3 star rating with only one offer from a small college down the road.

Reports come out. Fans leap from bridges. Reporters might bother with a paragraph of basic facts; nothing more.. while Joe Wickline drives to yet another backwoods empty space on the map. Joe has a wide grin on his massive "hit with a shovel" face. He is singing an old song from Ray Price he remembers from long ago. Life has never been better. He reaches for the phone to tell Charlie the good news. "Crazy Arms. that reach for somebody new"

If we are spending wisely and driving up the prices for others, that's a good thing.

If anything, you force a conference opponent to spend more resources on an unproven player. It’s not sustainable.

I think NIL gives a college a much better chance at pulling OOS recruits. Some kids will not leave state no matter what.

Every school is being played, this is a perfect legal market... willing seller willing buyer, it's about the market and the intelligence of the high schooler to maxize demand for his services

I want all the 4&5 stars too, but it is what it is. We finally have a coaching staff that we all should be confident in at developing talent.

Well no shite. And former Texas Coach Tom Herman and A&M coach Jimbo Fisher did the same thing. Those Texas HS kids know damn well those school’s boosters are insecure, dumb and wealthy.
