You got your prediction in 3 minutes before it was posted on the rant? Hmmmmm.

FYI to the recruiting board only people: Justice Hill is reported (by a source) to be entering the portal.

For the record I thought that he might be leaving because he seemed to be having trouble midseason when he left the team for a few games for personal reasons. Of course I could come up with some personal reasons to skip out after the Bama game.

I wonder if MM had a hand in this because he is bringing in another PG, or Mike Williams is the replacement? I hope he has another guard transfering in so that we don’t have to rely on a true freshman PG, or leaps from our current guards.

I don't either. But it will be interesting to see what happens with all of these guys (not just on LSU's team) who have already transferred once, but who want to do so again. Those guys aren't going to want to sit out a season if they transfer...which is technically the rule since they have already used their one free transfer. Unless they are a grad transfer, the NCAA would have to grant a waiver to avoid the year "penalty" (like they did with Hannibal this season with LSU being his second transfer destination). However, the NCAA made a point earlier this year to say they were going to be much stricter on granting waivers.

If your only choice is to sit out a year elsewhere or try to improve at your current school, the latter may be the preferred option.

I do too. I don't know if McMahon does. Williams had a horrible start vs. Mississippi St where he had like 3 bad turnovers in LSU's first 5 possessions. In one of his few displays of emotion this season, McMahon called TO and pulled Williams. He didn't play much at all until the SEC Tournament.

Williams has flashed some skill, but looks like he just lacks confidence. He always seems to look timid out there. But he can put the ball in the deck and get to his spot and has a nice jump shot

Justice has always seemed to me to be a player with a pretty high ceiling but extremely rough around the edges and a work in progress. Unfortunately, really starting last year against Auburn, he hasn't been in a situation where he is able to solely focus on his development without significant pressure to perform against high level talent. He was thrown into a sink or swim scenario (nobody's fault, just how the cards played out) and has since just kind of floundered

ETA: while I would love to see him stick around and grow as a player, it may be better for his game at this point to transfer to a smaller school where he could get significant playing time against weaker competition

Hill can probably get a hardship waiver citing whatever it was that caused him to take a leave of absence midseason.

Phillips is still the guy i wanna keep. Reed too if we can reign in the aspiring perimeter big man antics

Ward too!

There is a reason he was a 5 star prospect. The guy has good length and athleticism at the wing. He shot 39% from three in conference play and was always good for a few deflections/steals. Once McMahon finally thought it might be a good idea to play his highest rated recruit as the losses piled up, Ward showed flashes and gave some decent production.

I’d like Ward to return as well and hopefully he has a good offseason. Apparently his practice habits weren’t great at the beginning of season and i saw some Jalyn Patterson-esque attitude moments on the court at times but i get it was a frustrating year for everyone. He’s clearly talented.

I get it as a coach trying to establish a culture and reward guys for good work. But when you are getting your arse kicked over and over, standing on your principles and leaving a guy on the bench that might be able to help you win doesn't carry as much weight.

They need to keep all 3 of the freshmen.

He definitely should’ve played him more in January when the slide began to happen. And obviously it would’ve helped to get him more minutes against the cupcake portion of the schedule. Agree 100%

That said when you’re a true freshman you’ve got to work hard every day especially in practice if you want to play. I’ve heard Reed is that type of guy which is probably why he got the most consistent minutes of the 3. Phillips’ length, size and athleticism gave us something different and helped, but i think with him it was more of a matchup thing. He’s not a low block scorer and we didn’t play too many other teams early on that had a dominant center but by the time we got to February and the season was going nowhere fast i think they finally sucked it up and started playing him just to try and find some kind of help. You can never have enough size and athleticism and he gives us something above the rim along with protection on defense. It’s not like he’s lumbering around out there so he should’ve been more involved earlier too.

From what I saw he wasn't going to make much of a difference in those games. Might have been better to shield the young players from playing in some frustrating games.

One-time LSU commit Devin Ree entered the portal from Louisville. Should we?

Devin barely saw the floor on an absolutely horrible Louisville team. Maybe it was just poor roster management by Payne, but at this point Ree is an extremely unknown commodity at the college level. Picking up a player like Ree is a risk you can take when you have depth and other talented players on the roster in case it flops. Mcmahon can't afford to get burnt on unknown portal players again.

As of now, if no one else enters, the roster is complete. I expect more to go specifically Mwani and Justice Williams

Would not surprise me at all if Mwani and Justice go to McNeese.

Not sure what LSU will do without them.
