Why does everyone attack a poster pointing out our coaches deficiencies instead of actually pointing out the coaches actual deficiencies in coaching, team building, experience, and recruiting?

To me, it seems like a lot of posters need to quit kissing the LSU rump, and open their eyes.

This is the recruiting board. This thread is for monitoring the transfer portal, who is available and who LSU may be pursuing. There are numerous threads on the Rant for the coaching critique, as you are very well aware. I’m not sure why this is so difficult to understand unless you just want to keep pushing an agenda in every possible thread about basketball.

Ok, fine. I’ll go into recruiting mode and be positive. I hope he finds the three Tari Eason level transfers he needs to get this team back competitive with the top half of the league.

I am just responding to others who are posting nonrecruiting stuff. Picking me out shows the pro McMahon bias that is unwarranted by his "recruiting " success or lac thereof.

What’s your point, McMahon seems to be bad in this area of coaching as well.

Your post was responded to thoughtfully. No one "picked you out" unless you are an ellessuuee alter, which appears to be the case.

TCU big man Eddie Lampkin will transfer to Georgetown

Apparently he denied this on his own Twitter last night.

Of course it is a mess as he quit on his NCAA tourney team before the tournament, and the Georgetown coach was recruiting him to Georgetown before his school played in the tournament. Not sure we want any part of that drama.

That happens all the time. I suspect there is not a team in America where at least one of their players hasn't been contacted this year (generally by middle-men acting as a conduit between coach and player) to be recruited by another school. So the fact Georgetown (allegedly) was "recruiting" him while he was a member of the TCU team is not a big deal. That's simply a reality in the current age of college basketball. If you are not "tampering" then you are not recruiting to win.

The bigger concern was bailing on TCU right before the tournament. He was going to get minutes in tournament games. In fact, it was TCU's game against Arizona last year in the tournament where he really raised his stock. So if you are a coach at a different school there has to be concern about this guy's buy-in to your program at the first sign of personal adversity (for him). It also, again, goes to show you that playing in the tournament is not as big a deal to players as fans think it it is. Guys want to go to a program that will best benefit them, individually, and/or somewhere they have a connection moreso than to a place where a tournament appearance will be likely.

That wasn't such a big deal since the player had already quit the team. The big deal was that the Providence coach was recruiting the player to go to Georgetown while he was still coaching Providence going into the NCAA tourney.

I do agree on your concerns about the player. We are not going to be in a position to take players who are likely to quit on the program.

At the end of this recruiting cycle we, and everyone else, will judge how well McMahon did or did not do based largely on past play (transfers), rankings and projections...because that all we will have to go on prior to next season. But, that was the case last season too. By that measure you could argue McMahon recruited pretty well. Probably better than expected given the time frame in which he got the LSU job. However, the on-court results were FAR from ideal. That leaves the questions: Was McMahon's recruiting ahead of last season incredibly overrated (or just flat out wrong)? Or did he have solid players and just did a horrible job coaching them?

For me, I was optimistic going into the season because I thought McMahon did a good job putting together a solid roster. Not championship level. But solid. The results this season didn't match that at all. So leaves me lacking confidence he could do anything on the court even if he brings in another top 20ish (HS recruits/transfers combined) class this offseason.

That's a pessimistic way of locking at things and maybe a bit unfair to McMahon, but this season destroyed all benefit of the doubt. Nothing he can do this offseason can change that. He's going to have to prove it on the court.

How does a guy who 6’8 245 lbs only get 5.6 rebounds a game? Tre Hannibal averaged 4.5 RPG.

It will be interesting to see which players leave and which stay. Would anyone in the SEC, for instance, want any of our players? I am pretty sure Fountain will stay as he has already transferred once. Hill and Hanibal only have eligibility because of the covid year and probably will leave. I would think Coach MM will be looking at young players who he can build with who will be around for at least two more years. I would try to keep all three freshmen but not many of the others. The real question is whether Miller goes or stays. He might be looking to go some other place with friendlier rims and more of a supporting team.

All three have each transferred once (Hannibal 2x). Unless they are grad transfers, they will need a waiver to avoid sitting a year. The NCAA has already said they won’t be as lenient in granting those this season

Can’t see Hill returning. He was only getting 3-5 sympathy minutes a game by the end of it. I still believe in Justice Williams.
