This is certainly why Jay has said he rather invest into transfers and returning players than HS recruits. We’ve definitely had some signees get drafted that had success and would have been superstars in college, but there is a bunch of those guys that flamed out too.
he actually said he would rather invest in high school players and build them up through the program than the portal every year

Rankings do not mean anything once you get between the lines. Never write in a freshman before they play
even more so with baseball..90% of the rankings is how the kid projects in 3+ years not really what they are right now

The unrealistic expectations fans will have of Schmidt if he gets here will be out of control.
always lol at least he isn’t as raw as Cam Johnson lol
I mean that’s what the draft is..they still are getting a ton of money

You are the #5 pick in the draft and you have all the leverage in the world you do not take 2 mill under slot. Maybe you take 500K under slot but not 2 mill. Don't know what their thinking was accepting 2 mill less. Maybe a deal under the table that we don't know about would be my guess for the 2 mill under slot. Maybe they buy his family a new home who knows.
the first 2 picks in last year draft both took over 2.5M+ under slot deals

They can offer $1.3mil according to Twitter, without losing future picks
that isn’t correct…They can offer him 1,022,965 without losing a pick and penalties

I know Malachi Washington reaffirmed to LSU but the Pirates still have some money to play with due to Curiel underslot
He would have to come off his number by a lot for this to even remotely be a possibility

if your referring to Hirschkorn his number was 4M..Ppl in the industry said it, Jay said it, and the Braves paid him basically exactly 4M

Guess I was confusing that with Schmidt. Either way, seems like the interest in coming to school was real which definitely doesn’t make it suck less to lose him.
yeah Schmidt was 5M…can’t wait to see what he signed for

Not $5m, but certainly seems like he stuck to his number.
his number was 4M
also Mo Hampton played football..that doesn’t really help when it comes to developing which is what he needed
and they just drafted a high school pitcher that will probably cost them

that’s why i don’t see any kids that we are waiting on in this class signing for that low

Yeah, I still don’t think we’re out of the woods on some guys. Round 11 opens back up a lot of extra money. If teams really go low on the next 5 picks, they can splurge on round 11.
that’s even more rare though…I do wonder if we see teams just draft players for the hell of it in those rounds because of the new format and try to work out something after
