Projecting talent in baseball is very difficult but again, Jay has been better than the previous regime at hitting development. That is all I am saying. Baseball will always have very talented individuals who don't develop.

The new roster target number is 39 rather than 41. According to Jay on Jacques podcast.

LSU is at 41 now for the roster and that includes Washington and Santarelli but based on Jay's comments they will not sign

All of them. No DES players unless Murphy will be at LSU which seems he is not.

Interesting tidbit on Luke Tucker from Jacques podcast:
Tucker was originally committed to Arkansas State. Mike Silva called Jay and told him "Look he's not coming here, but you need to look at him."

Johnson on Jacques Doucet
-Last 72hrs were intense. Could have made a Netflix documentary. Proud of the coaching staff.
-re Santarelli & Washington; feels likes we are in a good spot in their commitment, pre signing day(aug 1st). Held LSU opportunity in high regard.
- love the kids that come to summer school. Get to workout with Chris Martin and get ahead of getting SEC-ready.
- looking for the older players(Milam, Schmidt, Evans, etc) to be mentors for the freshmen
Santarelli- tremendous character, power, and bat speed. Tools you don’t see end up in college. Look forwards to take next step with him, if it clicks this is a future MLB’er.
Nawrocki- no doubt he will pitch and hit. His team won last two state championships. Great competitor and makeup. Feels like he was hitting a HR or throwing a shutout every game. We need LH help on the mound. Elite FB & Slider.
Brady- very excited about Colton. Came down for summer school last week. Decided after not getting picked Saturday to commit. Tremendous upside.
Tucker- big physical LH hitting infielder. In summer school, he has not stopped working. Future big leaguer. Loves baseball & is a competitor. The entire SEC wanted him. The Ark St coached called Jay personally to vouch for the kid.
Milam- was making subtle cracks all year about coming back. Didn’t pay attention to it. At the end of April the season was going poorly & he said he didn’t want to leave on a bad note. Gave Milam a hard decision date because he had Dawson Park in the holster.
Arrambide- was one of the 1st guys to text me after the draft about how excited he was.
Bino Watters- big deal. Best player available. Made Cape All Star team
Casan Evans- was a little sore at end of season, but has had a great offseason & feels great.
Laya- broke FR Oregon HR record. Great both at play & field
Kurland- kind of wild how long he’s been around. Very excited about him, have always admired how he has played & there is some more baseball to pull out of him

Jay said with Jacques and Moscona that they will be at 39. Said all conversations were had and that it is hard to explain the DSA thing but that they are good to go for fall with roster at 39. That being said, I have the roster at 41 right now. Curious to see how the numbers will shake out. Thinking maybe tough conversations with HS commits had to be had.

The West Monroe kid is almost 20. He's the only DES.

Mentioned in one of his interviews he had the current roster at 17. At our count it should have been 18, because that was before Paz left. So is there a current player that Jay isn't counting next year? I wouln't say that is proof, but it could be one current player.
As for the HS players, I don't see Belding playing this year. Arrambide and Yamin will be gone next year and he could contribute next year. I'm sure he could develop in the program but he could also getting playing time at a JUCO.
Wisener would probably be at the bottom of the depth chart, if we went that direction. 20 is a good roster number, but usually only about 13 or 14 will actually contribute in a year. 4 catchers is too high a number and 11 infielders. if you include 1B, is a little high too.
Sometimes these things usually work themselves out. Like Solo said, we could very well see a player look for more playing time elsewhere.

I'm really surprised by him saying 39 before the fall today, especially since he basically included Aase in the 39 saying 7 LHP. I would have guessed Aase and Yamin. But I think we would know if Yamin wasn't returning. I feel like it has to be 2 of the lower ranked freshmen.

Thanks Gnash, he’s a forgotten man, but I’m happy he stayed.
Question for those in the know, is it better for a baseball player to rehab a major injury at a big university like LSU and Vanderbilt with their campus medical centers, training staffs, good doctors, etc. Or is it better to have your health and return to action in the hands of a MLB organization? Thanks, just always wondered.

I believe Chris Martin spent a few years with the Astros specializing in rehab, and did some good work with arm injuries.

With that said, he will have his work cut out for him with the pitchers alone. Both Moore and Aase are coming back from significant injuries, and both Schmidt and Evans were banged up at different junctures. Some of the returning position players had, or allegedly, had some nicks too.
