You might be correct of course, but I don't see any obvious candidates. Ruckert and Pearson love LSU too much and I can see a ligit starting chance for Ruckert next year. Yamin is happy with his role. I don't see any freshman bumping Braun.
As for pitchers, maybe Aase, Plog, Lachenmayer, Williams and Zion. They might fall down the depth chart passed by a freshman. They could look for better opportunities but pitchers are different than position players. Pitchers can make career staying in the bullpen.
There is also a chance we add another player, pitchers or Lougue (spelling).
Then LSU might process someone.

Malachi Washington is a total electricity factory. With him being more athletic than Wachs and RHH, I’m totally on board with a CF platoon of Washington + Patrick / Wachs + Davis. Until someone inevitably locks up the position.

Definitely curious to see how Aase comes back from TJ this fall and winter; I imagine if it's not looking great he might look elsewhere that will let him pitch through coming back from TJ if he has struggles more than he could get here with all the arms we brought in.
Jay hesitated on bringing in a LHP in the portal because he probably believed what could happen actually did in the draft and now we have 7 LHP on the roster which is a more Yeskie-like pitching roster I feel like.

Wachs doesn't really have any issues with LHPs. Laya does. I think the platoon ends up being Patrick or Washington splitting time with Laya, and either Wachs or the non-Laya is in CF.
I also think there will be some DH opportunities available. Not a ton, but every once in a while to give one of the catchers a full day off. Especially early in the season when they stack all the midweek games.

Agreed. I like the lefty numbers. Just need some growth from Williams, Lach, and Plog to go with the new guys.

Last year they brought Smart from TN that was coming off TJ. He didn't look good in the fall, velocity down and command struggled. It could happen with Aase, we don't know.

I don't get the way some people are making it seem like Wachs is destined to be a back up after bringing in this signing class. Maybe they are freaking out about his summer stats.
Wachs has proven to be a very good hitter over 2 seasons at Tulane and a solid outfielder. He may not have a loud tool, but he doesn't have any major weaknesses in my book. Still interested to see how he handles SEC pitching from weekend to weekend, but he's a very well rounded college player with experience.
I'm typically skeptical of a freshman coming in and hitting well right out of the gate. Curiel and Braun are the exception. Until I see otherwise I think Watters, Wachs, and Laya will start in the outfield.

It's been confusing the shite out of me too.
I've been inputting box score stuff into my spreadsheets on him and Watters because I built in some stats I like that aren't tracked in other places. I'll eventually get to the other transfers as well. I just started with those two.
Wachs is patient and sees a lot of pitches. Walks a lot, doesn't strike out at a bad rate. Hits to all fields with doubles power, HR power might manifest this year more. I actually think the jump we see from Braun FR->SO will look a lot like what Wachs did at Tulane.

The Orioles signed Colton Sampson as a UDFA, he was a JUCO LHP from Seminole State that we were monitoring. I don't think we were pursuing too aggressively.

Josh Horvath, the 2026 RHP from Texas we've been looking at recently due to him touching 100 and decommitting from a JUCO, just committed to A&M.
He was a guy I thought we'd go after hard if we had roster room. A lot of SEC schools were on him.

I'd be surprised. Aside from the roster spot, I don't know where the opportunities would come from. Another year in Eunice, hopefully with some mound time included, would be better than coming in and not playing much.

It’s the draw of the unknown. Washington has an incredibly high ceiling, so people assume he’s going to be too good to keep off the field. Bino is projected to go in the first round next year and Laya was a freshman all American. People are just assuming Wachs is the worst of the bunch and will get passed up by players with louder tools.
That’s the fun but annoying part about prospects and recruits. Realistically, they might all suck and all of this was a waste of time, or we could have just gotten a few future all Americans on campus.

Luckily Washington's swing doesn't look like the abomination that was Mo Hampton's, and Sean Ochinko won't be telling him what changes to make.

If Jay was our Coach when Mo was here I think the story would be a whole lot different. I have a bit more trust in Jay with hitting development.

also Mo Hampton played football..that doesn’t really help when it comes to developing which is what he needed

Same as the 60 grade fastball or breaking ball, with a 45 grade control. Those guys could be Alex Lange on Conner Benge. Doesn’t mean you can’t be excited, but I always have a low expectation.

Maybe, but there are guys in every draft that fit that profile that don’t pan out. I mean, Paxton Kling was a big athletic kid that had every tool, but couldn’t figure out his plate approach here. Still time left, but William Patrick is a similar case. Both of those guys were ranked around where Washington was ranked and had similar grades. No Hampton was just the most overrated out of the bunch, which is why he brought him up.
