re: LSU Baseball 2026 (and beyond) Recruiting Thread

Major Osbolt has removed everything LSU and other schools have begun to follow so it’s safe to assume he’s one of the defections.

I starts off talking about how more HS players made it to campus. I believe this will be a trend that continues to grow. I think NIL will increase from univerisities and that will lead more HS to campus. To make it clear, NIL will never compete with MLB dollar to dollar. What is does is, players will be able to double dip with NIL and a signing bonus after school and have the benefit of getting both. It also takes away some of the risk. Before NIL, players could go empty handed if they choose college, now they can at least with some NIL money. If they don't work out at college, their education might be for them as well.

Just guess because you guys were wondering. Jay said MLB not drafting HS players in the future will never happen.

This is only for the baseball nerds. I did a brief look at the 2028 roster.

Catcher- With Arrambie and Yamin gone in 2028, we will need two more catchers to go with Serna. Project pointed out, we don't have any catchers in the 2027 class. We will be looking at JUCO and the portal next year.

Infield- If we look at what you are losing to the draft and what you might get in the 2027 signing class the numbers are a little high. I don't think we will be looking in the portal unless Jay needs to find a starting SS.

Outfield- Looking at what we lose and what we can get in, the numbers are also high. I don't see any portal additions next year. I'm more worried about subtractions than additions on both IF and OF. If you look at players like Wienstien, Adams, Roberson and Murphy the completion, not only 2027, but 2028 is real. Certainly impacted their decisions to sign pro. It might not be the only factor, but had to be one of them. Also about the OF this year, our 3 portal additions were brought to be starters, but none of them are stellar defensively. Patrick, Davis and Washington are stellar. Something to think about, late inning replacements. 2028 might be more talented than 2027 in the outfield.

Pitchers - We can be looking at replacing our whole rotation in 2028, We will see how that works out, but we will be spending our NIl portal money to get pitchers and back up catchers.

What does your 2027 infield look like without any portal players lol?

When Jay was on Mik’d up, he was emphasizing the importance of keeping players for their 3 years. He said the example he uses, which LSU football fans are going to hate, is from Nick Saban.

He said Saban always told his players, no NFL scout ever called and asked how was a player his freshman year. He said they ask how they developed during their time there.

Jay said to take it a step further, he tells them Derrick Henry, didn’t start his freshman year at Alabama, but he stayed and developed and look what happened with him.

Agree. I'd imagine it's really hard to sell them on three years especially if they thought they were in line for more ABs or innings going into their sophomore year and a highly regarded transfer comes in at their position. And if you can't sell them, I really couldn't blame them.

6 infielders in the 2027 class

That's already 14, plus maybe reduced roster number. Since DSA is similar to the cloud, it's something we can't figure out.

It depends how Ruckert, Loew, Martinez and Tucker develop. It also depends if Pearson goes in the draft next year. What freshman will make it to campus? Does Minnatee stick around? We ;have 11 infielders this year, it could be less next year. Even if some leave to portal, some recruits and Pearson get drafted, there will still be a number crunch.

If someone doesn't step up for SS at 3B, we won't have a choice to go portal. I'm pretty confident at 1B and 2B, probably 3B as well. SS is only real ? in my mind. That's not with counting on any freshman as a starter. Like I said there are 6 in the 2027 class.
