Pirates had supplemental round pick, so 11 total in first 10 rounds. Of those 11, only 2 were HS. 2 of the remaining 9 were college seniors with zero leverage (combined slot of $603,000). We all know they’re saving considerable money on Curiel’s $8.34m slot. They should also save on Jason DeCaro’s $1.04m slot in round 3. Tre Phelps fall in this draft confused me. He seems like an overslot guy to me at $214k in round 9. Spencer Evans is also their 11th round selection. I am assuming he’s gone, so hopefully he destroys their pool savings. They also drafted a HS out of Canada in round 14.

Since the new 20 round draft format in 2021, the Pirates have drafted 11 HS players in rounds 14-20 and have only signed 5 of them.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Santarelli is Seattle’s first and only draftee out of high school.

Maybe someone more intelligent than me could break this down.
2/11 of their first 10 round pics were college seniors. 8/11 were ranked.
I’d assume Evans (pick 11) and Grant Govel (pick 16) will hopefully eat up some of their bonus pool.
