I think that probably does it for us as far as position players out of the portal.

Much better than I expected and Jay had set the bar at the ceiling.

Pour into these pitchers this summer and let’s go to Omaha.

Man Jay is killing the portal! Position players I feel good about now have REAL depth if Pearson and Ruckert stay. Still feel like we need a couple more strike throwers after what we saw this past season

Looking at the 69 AB's from Ruckert and the 41 AB's from Patrick, would you expect in 2027 for the two of them to have about the same number of plate appearances like they did have this past season?

They'll get their ABs much earlier in the season next year and it'll be up to them to command more. Impossible to know what kind of improvement they make but I feel good about both of them

I'm still not convinced Ruckert doesn't help out in the OF this year. His bat has a ton of promise. You now have two guys who have been primary corner OF and will fight for CF (some saying Wachs to CF but I think Watters will try his hand there). If you don't get any of the top tier HS OF, or if Patrick doesn't progress, then I can see Ruckert working his way into the OF rotation.

This is purely based on my own speculation btw.

Patrick and Ruckert are both playing on the same team in the Pacific Empire League for summer ball. So far through 7 games:
Patrick - 8/21 with 4K/6BB
Ruckert - 8/22 with 2K/8BB

Ruckert is better right now. And Pearson is a better hitter than either right now. But the absolute ceiling for this team would be for Patrick to make a massive leap. Dude just reeks of Mikie Mahtook. If he could get to that level we'd be stacked. Ruckert doesn't have that ceiling, albeit a higher floor.

Looking at clips of Wachs has me really excited. His freshman year it was a ton of opposite field contact through the 6 hole and some hard hit pull side line drives.

Then sophomore year those pull side line drives turned into HR (2 HR vs 9 HR).

6'2 190, has great speed. Seems like a guy that could keep that trajectory and add even more power if you wanted him to. Or you could just keep him around the 7-10 HR mark and take more of a Curiel approach. Didn't know what to expect but he's got my attention.

I think Braun could still go to OF.

I agree. I know we’ve seen the Paxton Kling trajectory and been frustrated by that, but I just don’t mind spending to keep a player with the physical attributes Patrick possesses. Seems worth waiting for, meaning that if he blooms late it will be a sight to behold

Sure. As of now, you're probably looking at an opening day lineup of

C - Bide
1B - Braun
2B - Kurland
3B - Park
SS - Milam
LF - Watters
CF - Patrick
RF - Wachs
DH - Serna

But you could easily put Braun in RF, Wachs in CF, Serna to 1B, Ruckert to 2B, and Kurland to DH.

You've got a good amount of versatility at 3B between Park, Ruckert, and Pearson.

You've got a good amount of versatility at 1B between Braun, Serna, whatever they do with Pearson, and hopefully one of the freshman.

You hopefully have some good corner OF versatility with (at least one of) the freshman, Braun, Watters, and Wachs.

You even have 4 guys who can reliably play MIF in Park, Milam, Kurland, and Ruckert.

I really like how the lineup has been constructed thus far. About as good as you can ask for.

It seems that going into next season we’re giving ourselves some options and have players that are much more versatile and can play in a number of spots. Much more so than last year.

I think Braun is going to play a lot of OF and 1B because that is what will allow the platoon of the others. His finally position will be determined by which 9 earn their spot and what position allows that.

Total guess but I think Jay will want to add a veteran glove first CF in the portal as insurance for Patrick not coming around and/or not getting enough freshmen to campus. You could always cut them loose after Fall if not needed.

Do we kick the tires on Carbone or is it a foregone conclusion that he’s following his coach to South Carolina

I’d assume any Coastal player is going to SC unless told otherwise.
