Maybe guys don't like to hear "you'll have to compete".

If Ryan wants to play ss he’s not playing over milam
Ryan really struggled with bat in scrimmages

I remember CJJ saying his bat needed to improve. And you are right, some guys might not want to change positions. Even for maybe just a season.

My question for Ryan is: What spot did he expect to grab this season? What makes him believe he can't win the second or third job next year and take over SS in 2027?

Probably knows we are following several infielders and bringing in Simpson for 3rd. Probably wants to play next year for sure.

Yea it’s hard to blame the coaches for recruiting the portal when you see shite like this. If you’re not ok competing for a spot then you probably aren’t in the right program.

I do not mean this necessarily for Ryan, but with roster reductions, coaches across college baseball are having to decide if they can carry a guy that maybe needs to develop a little more. Years ago with the 35 man roster you could, but there is so much baseball talent out there now, coaches can find a more polished replacement. It's sucks, but is true.

Was hoping Mikey would hang on but I understand. CJJ talks in every podcast that experience is the best teacher and it is...he just didn't get the young guys any and by his own philosophy they will be in same predicament next season - no experience.

There are obvious portal entries where LSU is complicit, but there will be some where the player’s agent is working to get the kid the best deal. Most, if not all, of these guys are gone b/c LSU would not match a number the agent has offered from elsewhere.

Legislation will be needed to control this. Can you imagine MLB with unrestricted free agency EVERY year, season to season?

There’s a couple kids on the roster that will fall into this category once LSU is done and I’m not sure our number will match

Yep, I commented somewhere earlier that after the season, there will probably be 1 or 2 from the post-season roster that no one expected.

Hopefully not the core pitchers- Schmidt, Evans, Williams, Rizy.

Would hope not but nothing surprises me anymore. Those guys should be starters next year.

hard to do when you are trying to win a championship every year.

Ryan would be blocked another year by Milam, so this shouldn't be that shocking. He was a bit over hyped anywa. Let him go try and start somewhere from the start as a sophomore.

Really hoping Larson doesn’t hit the portal. I know he was injured part of the year. Is that the reason for the scant usage? Anyone know?

He wasn’t seeing the ball well enough to play over the other guys. He was competing with Brown and Pearson.

I have an LSU alum/friend in Overland Park that says he's gone but maybe he changes his mind.

Would be nice to bring in another big freshmen haul with so much turnover. Just difficult to believe Costello and Hogg wouldn't have found one of the ope infield spots.

I need to adjust my expectations for top kids we used to never sign now

Play as a freshman or transfer. I don't like this current cycle of college baseball.

you’re going to hate it going forward

the limited roster is going to be hard on freshmen.

it’s hard to carry anyone who isn’t contributing now
