I would love to see him lose 20-30 lbs if possible. Would still be 270 lbs at that point.

I don't disagree, but I don't think Jay is avoiding Louisiana kids. If the number of Louisiana kids on our roster ever gets to zero that speaks more of youth baseball development in Louisiana than it does Johnson's recruiting strategy.

I agree. It’s just hard to imagine the Louisiana baseball cupboard being THAT bare.

My best guess for a starting lineup next year as of now

CF Curiel
3B Brayden Simpson
SS Stevan Milam
RF Jake Brown
1B John Pearson
DH Zack Yorke
C Cade Arambide
2B Seth Dardar
LF Chris Stanfield

RH pinch hitters
Omar Serna
Eddie Yamin

LH pinch hitters
Tanner Reaves
Daniel Harden

Thank you! I’ve never posted in the LSU BSB recruiting thread the last 3 years and thoroughly enjoy the content and knowledge posted in this thread. A very big thank you to everyone who contributes great content.

Will this thread reach 300+ pages this year like the previous two years?

Looks like Jay made the obvious choice!

I’m making fun of myself but this is genuinely exciting. He may not be perfect but you know what you get from him on the field and in the club house. Go watch highlights of him and see how many times he would be super excited and pumping up other players when they made plays. The dude bleeds purple and gold as much as anyone.

know some don’t put stock into having hometown players, but I think you need more than that.

You have to keep in mind that a large number of Louisiana residents have moved out of the state for various reasons over the last 20 years. Kids don’t have to grow up in Louisiana to grow up Tiger fans.

I like this strategy to avoid any drama in the clubhouse; just rename positions. CF1 CF2

Kade Woods signed for $2500. He effectively signed for $5000, but only $2500 counts toward the bonus pool.

Coach Johnson is the best recruiter in the nation in my opinion. My only point is that I think the culture of this team will suffer in the long run if the players are 90% out of state players. If you only take one or two in state guys every year that’s where we’re heading.

Does anyone know why the Frederico kid is leading off for ole Miss or the Courville kid from barbe aren’t at LSU?

Did they not want to be at LSU or were they not offered?

He had an opportunity to start at an SEC school as a freshman. He would not have started at LSU. He also grew up for part of his life in Mississippi and may have just wanted to go back there. His dad coached in Mississippi for a long time before going to ULM.

Let's have one highly recruited Barbe bat pan out before lamenting losing one. The best hitter to come out of there was the DeBarge kid from ULL. And he was more of dirtbag type than a big time recruit.

We're generally grabbing the best players in the state. The state just doesn't produce a ton of talent. Some years are better than others.

At first I thought you left off a zero. Then you did it again. and again. Now I think the amount was intentional.

Part of the way Jay will keep Louisiana kids involved is going after ones that may enter the portal after getting some experience and proven themselves like Dardar.

I think Hayden Federico's dad might have played baseball at USM with my brother in 90s. if his dad is the same Michael Federico then there could be some sort of Mississippi connection. I'd love to know if that is in fact his dad.

Does anyone know if Pearson is playing 3B in the Northwoods league right now?

That's him. I don't know who your brother is, of course, but Federico played and coached at Southern Miss, and coached at a JUCO in Mississippi. May have played JUCO ball too. Originally from NOLA area I believe though.

And JUCOs.

They keep tabs on a lot of Louisiana HS kids that end up going JUCO.

Similar to Harden this year, I think they're going to keep an eye on Clapinski at LSUE.
