Full transparency, i follow Doyle and have for a while dating back to when he was a more fantasy baseball prospect-centric writer. I like his content, however he is more of a “for entertainment” guy for me.

Fans have mistakenly labeled him a scout here many, many times on here. It should probably be noted again that Joe Doyle is not a scout

I agree. Following him and listening to his content over the last couple years it seems you have to pick and choose what info you want to keep and what info you just ignore from him.

He does have good insight and good connections where some of the info and content he puts out is pretty good.

People here have mistakenly labeled him a scout because people like Moscona and Musso call him a scout.

It's one of those really minor things that absolutely infuriates me.

Prospect writers aren't scouts. And while some may have gone to scout school, they aren't talent evaluators first and foremost. The main value the guys at BA and MLB.com, as well as Kiley McDaniel and Eric Longenhagen, provide is they communicate with scouts and front office personnel, in addition to their in person looks.

Yap, at the end of the day it is about resources & connections. There is enough info on Twitter to piece together info for some of lesser connected writers, but it’s pretty easy to tell. The Mikey Ryan situation is a perfect example. Had a strong weekend over the summer of his jr year and all of a sudden was a draft risk for people who had never seen him in person lol

This will be long but cliff notes for anyone not wanting to watch/listen to the interview with Joe Doyle. This is all his opinions. I do not agree with all of them (especially his take on Frey) so don't shoot the messanger.

Jaden Fauske – 10% long shot for campus.
Quentin Young – 10% long shot for campus.
Brady Ebel – 40% shot to make it to campus. Says he wants to sign pro but will not sign if the money isn’t right. Comp to Jacob Berry where he does a lot of things right but nothing of his game blows you away.

Brigg McKenzie – 40% shot. Low 90s so isn’t overpowering as of now but said he knows a handful of teams that really like him.

Dean Moss – 50%. Does everything well. His opinion says he ends up at school, but he has no inside info to back that, just a gut feeling. Comp to Daniel Cabrera.

Landon Hodge - 50%. More likely than not ends up at campus. C/2B/OF. Really improved as of late. High school catchers take time to develop and seems like teams are starting to get away from drafting HS catchers.

Miguel Sime Jr. – 25%. Someone will pay for an arm like that. Not likely to make it to campus.

Omar Serna – We know he took his name out draft. Says he thinks Serna is ahead of Arrambide behind the plate at this point of the process. Can push for time behind the plate and possibly have the other get 1B looks.

William Patrick – Expects Patrick to make it to school but gave no percentage. Freak of an athlete. Swing and miss in his game. Can be a guy who shows up and doesn’t light the world on fire but can have some time at LSU to gain a little weight and dial in his hit tool with Jay and come out as a star in the future.

Marcos Paz – No percentage given. Before injury was on the short list of top HS RHP. Touched 95 at combine but mechanics are coming back and getting his athleticism back. Thinks because he isn’t fully back he expects him to get to campus and try to get back to that 1st round.

River Hamilton – 2nd or 3rd rounder before his spring season where he was dinged up. LSU could benefit from that by getting him through the draft. 5 pitches for strikes.

Says Chase Shores could return to school but then puts it at about 20%. Says would strictly be to start. I don’t agree that it is even as high as 20%. Says it is unlikely but something to think about.

Raegan Ricken – Late surge. Had up and down spring but got it together late. May have a team who falls in love with him and takes a chance on him but likely to make it to campus.

Mason Braun – Invited to combine so had some type of scout interest. Says his problem as of now is for the draft is his size at the positions he plays in 1B/LF. Says he is undersized for teams to really fall in love with him.

Ethan Frey – Says Frey in same situation as Jones. Says he can come back to play a position because you just don’t see a full time DH get drafted. Says he thinks the option for Frey he thinks will likely be around 350-400K vs getting some money NIL and playing everyday at LSU.

Jaden Noot – Thinks he can fit rounds 6-9. Says he thinks he likely comes back to school and try to get a starting spot in the rotation.

Jacob Mayers – Gut says he goes pro. Stuff is there and loses leverage. Someone will take a chance on him to try and fix the command issues.

Says Brayden Simpson will be fun for LSU fans to watch. Has him as an 11th or 12th rounder right now. Question will be can he hit SEC pitching. Potential to be a middle of the order bat if he adjusts to the jump in competition.

To be fair, sometimes the kid himself thinks he’s getting drafted in a certain range after speaking with scouts, and even that’s wrong. There were people around Mikey who thought he had a good chance to get some good money, and he started moving up draft rankings. I remember local people even saying Frye was a legit draft risk.

I wonder how much of that comes from scouts that don't understand their own value within an organization.

Not trying to beat a dead horse with this question……more so trying to understand situations for guys like Jones or Frey in general.

Do y’all think this offer number is accurate for Frey? Let’s say he gets 400k this year. How much would he drop off if he came back another year and put up the same numbers and never figured out a position? With no leverage would it cut in half to 200k or does that number go to almost nothing?

Likely almost nothing. He would have to have a golden spikes type year like Ivan Malendez did at Texas to get anything of significance.

No leverage he just runs out of options. Dugas was picked in the top 10 rounds but was only signed for 20K.

All comes down to how he values playing in college over pro ball and accepting that he will not sign for a lot of money next year if he chooses to come back. NIL can help that a bit but not as much as he would lose by foregoing the draft this year.

So it seems like for guys like that to come back LSU would have to get the NIL really close to his bonus for it to make any sense.

I mean it just takes one article or blurb to start a flame. I had seen Ryan a dozen times, he was a very solid player but more often than not it was never obvious that he was the best player on the field, especially with the bat.

Financially, yes. Other than that it would take someone like Frey to value another college season at the difference. Say he gets offered 400K in draft and 100K in NIL. Not really sure what he gets in next year draft but lets call it 50K for fun. That is leaving 250K on the table. Does Frey think a senior year of playing at LSU is worth missing out on 250K is kind of how I look at it. Factor in taxes and all of that into the equation as well. Guess what I'm getting at is there are so many moving parts to these MLB draft decision that it can get really confusing trying to make some type of guess as to what might happen.

Again, those numbers are for fun. We do not know what the numbers will truly look like when it comes to the draft.
