There are worse places to land as a pitcher.

What happened to him, Champion, and the other kid who is going to San Diego state (I believe)?

Just kids wanting to stay closer to home or did they get processed?

With a 1.360 OPS, you can field .875. Lol. Not sure if 1.039 quite allows .846 though...

I can’t speak about any of them specifically but I was told in March that Jay was cleaning house on the 24 LSU roster, having serious talks about play time/ scholarships and the direction of program with 24 commits. It’s probably a combination of them being out west and where LSU/college baseball is at.
Houston just pulled everything last week on a recruit and he committed to ULL this week. I think it’s crazy how late this stuff is happening .

Jay would never advocate this but I am certain LSU will keep evaluating them and he could always get them back more mature and ready to compete .

Those three mentioned are all highly regarded recruits and have draft potential in the future.
Stunner made the 18U USA team last year and all three were at Area Code games. I would think they want to play early, get drafted or transfer in a year and get paid a couple 100 thosuands .

Agree or not, Jay is in a win now mode and according to his press conferences recently, I believe the classes will be smaller and JUCO/ transfer heavy. 24 class seems to be the first big casualty. Also the 24 class was the last class that allowed most of the class to commit their freshman and sophomore years. I think the junior rule will help with evaluating and making smarter decisions . I know the coaches love the rule .

Probably a combo of all that.

There is probably an evaluation of how quickly they will contribute vs what their NIL ask is, plus distance from home. Champion and Arambula both flashed early, which is easier to do in California than in other parts of the country, just because there are so many eyeballs on guys out there all the time.

They were passed up by other guys as they got closer to graduation. If they don't look like they're going to contribute as freshmen, the likelihood is they'll transfer closer to home after a year anyway. So use those roster spots either on portal or JUCO guys that have a better chance of contributing or a local kid that has a better chance of sticking around.

I think they're going to do this with some guys, but I don't know if it will be with guys that were committed to us at one point. Only because I feel like taking their commitment and then turning them away could create bad blood and wasted energy trying to get them back in the fold.

I saw that. I think that will be a blessing in disguise for him. Houston was very close to making a change this offseason. I don't think it's going to get good enough next year for them to keep Whiting around.

I like the idea of selling out to quality over quantity when it comes to HS position recruits. If you can get a good hit rate on HS guys that can create some continuity and then you supplement with 1-2 position guys every year out the portal.
It seems much easier to be portal heavy at pitcher given there are so many innings to pass around.

I agree a shift has been made away from taking as many developmental guys. Jay got burned and isn’t going that route again.

Looks like John Pearson raking in Marshall League. He’s too much of a pull hitter for that to translate, but if he can start going opposite field more often he will be dangerous.

i’d limit the developmental guys to kids you think really want to be at LSU.

LA guys. It’s going to be a hard sell to get kids from Arizona to hang out on the bench 2 years.

With all the staff turnover you also have to make sure everyone coming in is on the same page. Can’t bring in coaches with ego’s who think they see something in a recruit that nobody else does. Or come in with a “I can fix him” attitude

Wouldn't you want all your coaches to have an "I can fix him" attitude. MOst of the high school players that don't need much fixing go in the draft, so the point of going to college is to develop (get fixed) into a better player. If your college coaches don't have a plan to fix you then what is the point of going to that college.

Him or Ciulla-Hall would make sense. Eyanson would be a dark horse if he decided he saw enough.
