There are numbers on the surface.

But Milam is a draft sweat. Seo may be a pitcher. Lape is TJ redshirting. Thompson is still a question mark. Roellig is still recovering from TJ. Nippolt isn't a starter. Guidry is still unproven with the bat. Kucherak is the only freshman that doesn't have some other qualifier attached to him, but he doesn't even start at shortstop on his HS team (he would, but he goes to HS with a near first round shortstop).

Jay is ridiculous man getting a transfer visit in like the one day they have before Omaha lol. I guess the other likely big infield targets would be Shelton and Aloy.

Braswell just committed to us

interesting take

Played well for a freshman but struggled at the plate during his sophomore year. I remember him being a big-time prospect coming out of HS in GA, and we know Jay likes that type of stuff.

.259 BA
.372 OBP
1 HR

Looks like he's started every game of his college career.

Yeah I've got no issue taking veteran players out of the league with upside. He won't be the only one competing for the SS position so good by me.

Yea I think Jay showed last year he would rather not rely on any freshman coming in to play SS.

Braswell can play anywhere on the INF, and play it well, so he is a nice piece to have.

SC fans seem pretty upset about it, hopefully Jay can get his approach at the plate fixed up. If he hits how Thompson did this past season that’s all we really need.

Braswell had a nice fr year
A lot of upside
He was also a pitcher in high school and threw some his fr year at USC

White at 3B
Jones at 1B
Braswell SS
Guidry 2B
Both Braswell and Guidry can pitch as well

Nipolt may be on the move again

.973 fielding for a SS is pretty damn good

Thompson has way more pop in his bat. Braswell has hit 3 HR in 414 collegiate plate appearances. Thompson had 8 as a freshman.

Hopefully, Jay can work his magic because no one is doubting this kid's glove.

He has a higher line drive percentage than Thompson, higher walk rate. He has a much higher ground ball rate than Thompson, so it's tough to say if the power potential is that much different. Thompson's swing has always been geared toward getting the ball in the air. Thompson strikes out less than Braswell.

But Thompson strikes out less than a lot of people, despite what it looks like.

Don’t necessarily need him to hit for power, can put him at the bottom of the lineup to try and push runners over or get on base for guys like Kling Tommy and Jones. Hitting .290 and an OBP above .350 would be enough for the 8/9 hole guy imo

Somebody correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought after you transfer once, if you transfer again you have to sit out, like the old rules…?

They should be. He’s a really good player. Jay will develop him to his full potential and he knows it. That’s why he’s coming in to compete.

You can get a waiver, or if you're a grad transfer you don't need a waiver.

They've been handing out waivers in basketball like crazy.

Last year, pre draft, SS and C was crowded. SS ended up being one of our thinnest positions and we basically carried the perfect amount of C’s on the roster. Jay took enough guys to basically cover any draft risk or position changes.

Pre draft: SS
Thompson
Young
Pineda
Guidry
Romero

Pre draft C
Milazzo
Travinski
Neal
Jones
Fry

I’d imagine Braswell fits that mold as a guy who will for sure make it to campus that can at least fill in if things go south. I realize he’s a good defender, but .250 with very little pop is probably something you could get from a freshman or Guidry, so I highly doubt he promised this guy any starting spot.

Jay lost both Inf Carter & Pineda last year to the draft so I'm sure he brings in a few more Inf vets from other teams.

Plus Braswell's range covers up White at 3B making him a better defender in less space. Similar to what makes Francisco Lindor with the Mets so valuable.

Or a damn good defensive SS.

Also, if we get some really good middle infielders out of the portal that could put Guidry in a backup position and give him the chance to be our closer without having to concentrate on infield.

This braswell guy would probably be comparable at the plate to Guidry and has a better glove
