The excellent point was in response to someone pointing out that if cortez was going to transfer in conference, then he needed to be in the portal by july 1

I know it takes a couple days for a player’s name to show up in the portal, I wonder if the 4th caused a delay with Cortez’s paperwork

Which makes Kendall’s sour grapes comment about “LSU’s fingerprints” even better.

From what i heard, ahuna played with injury throughout the season

The whole statement was just Aggie butthurt
He started out accusing us of tampering then same sentence says but I really have no clue if LSU will even recruit him

A&M got to Omaha last year largely based on transfers
He’s just mad Aggies still couldn’t buy their title

I did some research because I got curious, and it does say to transfer within the SEC the paperwork must be submitted by July 1st, but idk if that was talking about when the transfer portal closed on July 1st. I believe this year they pushed the deadline back to July 13th. Either way I guess it’s possible to have submitted the paperwork a week ago and the news is just now coming out.

Kucherak hit a grand slam today. It looks like all the teams there play tomorrow and Saturday and are then off for a couple days. I’ll post an update Sunday.

Tennessee fans can’t be expected to know that 1/3 their lineup and 2/3 their weekend rotation were transfers. they’re casuals

I thought Little was rough to watch, but I think this guy has a worse WHIP and batting average against. 40+ walks in around 40 innings? If so, that is brutal. I understand taking a chance on the arm talent, but I hope for his sake he figures it out.

I wouldnt get so caught up in numbers. Sometimes its just about talent

Everyone knows the SEC strike zone was unforgiving last season.
Look at some of the ERAs by LSU pitchers in SEC play
Guidry 5.40
Cooper 5.70
Ty Floyd 5.76
Ackenhausen 9.00
Hurd 13.81
I dont understand why LSU fans want to selectively look at this.
Cortez ERA in OOC was 4.82. He was eaten alive in SEC games. But also throws 98. They will look and they will look hard.
Cortez has a better arm than Little. Much better, in fact. He was also committed to Jay at one point while at Arizona. It would make sense for him to look this way.

I don't think anyone is looking at it selectively. It's about more than the strike zone. It's about the SEC being way more difficult than your pre-conference schedule, and it's also about guys just plain struggling. We all knew Thatcher Hurd could be dominant, but he just flat out had no command throughout the majority of the season. When he turned it on late, it wasn't because of a change in umpires. It was a change in how he was pitching.
People have every right to be concerned about a guy having terrible numbers. You take the talent and see what you can do with it, of course, but there's no way to sugar coat the struggles of Cortez, anymore than there was for Hurd or Little. Hurd figured it out, and did so while we were still playing with SEC umpires. Little did not. Cortez didn't, either. So yeah, it's a bit alarming, but I'm sure there will be plenty of room on the roster to take a chance on someone with that kind of arm.

I don't have a super strong opinion either way. I would be fine with taking him on talent and hoping for the best similar to what they did with Little last season. What I don't like about the stats is that he has a big arm but apparently cannot put guys away as his K are less than 1 per IP. Not only that, but he gets hit hard and walks people. I questioned Shores with a put away pitch also with his K numbers being down for how hard he throws, but he still gets weak contact and seems like he will be able to figure out that put away pitch in the future.

Seems pretty obvious. I’m sure he realizes the competition was a factor in higher eras in sec play by our pitchers . Umps were also a factor

If someone has a great arm and has had one good year and one bad year, you take them. The back end of a bullpen is lucky to have a guy with a good arm period , even if they haven’t produced.
That’s starting to change though, our pitching depth has gotten better each year.

If you read the main board all season you’d understand what I mean about being selective. Not understanding the league baseline and where everyone fell. I’m not criticizing, just more of an observation.
They don’t really care if he figured it out last year. They will think that he can figure it out here.
He throws 98 and you cannot teach that. Easy, no brainer take.
