This thread is a bat signal for the catastrophe syndrome crazies. Hot takes galore.

Yet the threads always seem to be filled with the sunshine crew shitting on others opinions instead. Faith over facts. Quite cultish

There’s a lot of angry people in this thread arguing with facts and using fairy dust untraceable metrics like “I trust the staff’s evaluation” and “stars don’t matter”, when in fact it’s been proven statistically that stars DO matter.

Yea, but look at the range. You're talking about 1 recruit flipping from one school at the top to LSU and that list looks completely different, and it will by the time signing day comes. On top of that, the recruit rankings aren't even thought of yet, high school season isn't over yet. A few move up the rankings and we could be at the top. You don't want a class of 25 4 and 5 stars because half will leave within 2 years.
I could still come up with more reasons why this is dumb. Want me to keep going?

You of course understand that even to the extent that you’re right, coming from you it comes off like sour grapes, right?

They matter. So does the portal. Everyone knows your intent when post on this board

Let's apply some context. Overall class rank by percent of 4*/5*. Also providing total commits with number of 3, 4, and 5 star players

4. Florida - 76.19% 4&5 stars, 21 committed, 2 5 stars, 14 4 stars, 5 3 stars
5. Tennessee - 75.00% 4&5 stars, 20 committed, 2 5 stars, 13 4 stars, 5 3 stars
6. Texas A&M - 71.43% 4&5 stars, 21 committed, 2 5 stars, 13 4 stars, 6 3 stars

24. Kentucky - 31.58% 4&5 stars, 19 committed, 0 5 stars, 6 4 stars, 13 3 stars
25. Mississippi State - 31.25% 4&5 stars, 16 committed, 0 5 stars, 5 4 stars, 11 3 stars
LSU's numbers are not really troubling. What gives me pause is the fact that Georgia has the largest number of commits in this class, the highest number and percentage of 4 & 5-star commits, and the most 5-star commits. What a recruiting class, wow.

A telling statistic
Is it? With the exception of Georgia, LSU has more commits than anyone on the list. They also have more 4*s than anyone on the list except Georgia, but no 5*s
Georgia has 21 4* & 5* players
Florida and LSU both have 16

This is a interesting point. It's a new era of CFB with NIL and the portal. And the more experienced coaches (CBK, Saban, etc) have no more experience in it than do the younger coaches. Those that figure it out will certainly have an advantage.
Like you, I've often thought that having some 3* and projects could benefit a program by providing continuity vs a 5* who's 3Y and out.
But if a 3* who's paid his dues only to find his time preempted by the portal, then they too will be 3Y and out.
Gonna be interesting to see how this new era plays out.

There are roughly 30, 5 star players per year. If the sec gets half, 15, then each team gets 1. And if only 40% of those get drafted then we have 6 successful 5 star players a year coming through the entire sec??? Championship teams are built with lots of unranked players, 2 star players, 3 and 4 star players. Not discounting 5 star players but I think you're sprinking angel dust inferring that you need a team full of 5 star players to win championships. And though only 13% of 3 star players get drafted, there are 1328 a year. That means 172 of them get drafted a year if 13% is correct. 37 pro bowl players were 3 star or worse in 2016!

At the end of the cycle he was ranked highly.
Excerpt from January 7, 2023 Rivals article about risers in All-American Bowl just a few weeks before final rankings:
"Weeks arrived in San Antonio as a 5.6 three-star prospect, but after a standout week of practice which concluded with an impressive performance in the All-American Bowl, he will likely get a bump in his Rivals Rating and enter the four-star conversation come our final rankings meetings. We knew Weeks was one of the best linebackers in the class when it came to coverage and playing in space, so when he came out and played a sideline to sideline brand of physical football, all questions about how good he can potentially be at the next level were erased. Once Weeks develops in a college weight program where his strength will catch up to his athleticism, he has a chance to be a spectacular player at LSU and beyond." Rivals Article
Excerpt from On3 article dated 1/17/2003
"4-star LB Whit Weeks – LSU signee
School: Watkinsville (Ga.) Oconee County
On300 Ranking: No. 110 (up from No. 233)
Scouting Take: “Whit Weeks was one of the most impressive linebackers we saw throughout our All-American game travels in what was a very strong group. His rating history for us has been more of a roller coaster. The film has always been excellent but the athletic testing was always underwhelming. We just had never been sure if he was going to be able to run with top competition. After the Adidas All-American Bowl he showed us that not only could he run with top competition, he could dominate top competition.” — Cody Bellaire, On3 Scouting and Rankings Assistant"

7/9/22 On3 headline when Weeks committed to LSU
2023 three-star LB Whit Weeks finds his own path to LSU
On3 Article
Another excerpt from the day he committed from our friends at On3:
"On3 lists Weeks as the No. 60 overall linebacker and No. 79 prospect in Georgia. The On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, ranks him as the No. 62 linebacker and No. 62 prospect in Georgia."
On3 Article 7/9/22
Exerpt from 247 article dated 7/9/22 when Weeks committed to LSU:
"Weeks, the No. 43 linebacker in the country according to 247Sports, is the first addition for defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Matt House and the eighth commit during the month of July for the Tigers."
Weeks ended up the No. 8 linebacker in the final rankings from 247.

The good news is we now have a coach that knows what he is doing once they get here. After having 2 morons win National Championships at our school I feel like we’ll be ok with Kelly. The fact that Ed Orgeron actually won a Natty at LSU is beyond crazy.
