I realize there's no comparison between the two football programs, but something about Scott turning down Harvard to play for LSU makes me feel vaguely guilty. If he wants football glory and a chance to play at the professional level, LSU is definitely the right choice. But if football doesn't work out, will he regret this decision?

Listen, I've met plenty of Ivy League graduates, and only a few have really impressed me. Most have been unimaginative robots who were good at taking tests, or just rich d-bags. I'm a third generation LSU graduate, and I've done very well in life. But I think it's undeniable that Harvard would've been the safer option for Scott.

Everything I read about Lindsey Scott makes me want the best for him. Les Miles and Cam Cameron better do right by this young man.

Not going to lie, If I were him, I would have probably chosen Harvard. He's not likely going to play football past college.

Harvard can't offer athletic scholarships. I don't know why this is so hard for people to understand. He can make very good opportunities for himself coming out of LSU, and not be thousands (and potentially hundreds of thousands) of dollars in debt when he's done. Plus he gets to play football in the SEC vs the Ivy league.

If your son or daughter were a brilliant musician would you send them to Juilliard or Harvard?

Did he commit to Syracuse over Harvard? If so, then football is what he has wanted all along, so you should feel less guilty.

unless his family is rich he wouldn't be paying for Harvard anyway... that is why the Ivy League is more competitive now. no one gets turned down for money reasons

It's a bit different. Not many violin players come down with CTE at the age of 35.

But I understand your point.

I don't understand why people think he can't go to grad school at Harvard.

Going to LSU over Harvard to play football has no bearing on his academic/rofessional future.

If he's Harvard material now, he will be 4 years later.

Link?

I know they can offer grants and scholarships, but I highly doubt what he would be getting would cover the full cost of tuition and living expenses for 4 years.

His dad is an attorney and his mom is a professor if I recall correctly, so it's not like he comes from a family in poverty.

I guess, but this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to excel in his passion. Playing in front of 100k plus passionate fans or a thousand people is different. It's not all about setting himself up for a pro career or a future career outside of football, it's about having the best experience in his chosen path. Harvard would be happy to have him in a graduate program if he excels at LSU. Academics will always be there, this is his shot in football.

I actually agree with you. I'm just saying I'll be more pissed at Miles/Cameron than usual if they squander this young man's talent.

At least he should be smart enough to learn and understand the dreaded playbook.

That's such bullshite. It's not even a good retort compared to a Harvard degree.

A lot people don't understand the difference between getting an undergraduate digree and focusing on special profession. Few people who want get a professional degree from Harward would go there for undergraduate degree.
