Pass. This injury is no joke and he’s not expected to even be close to ready until sometime in the fall.

Sam Leavitt, the Arizona State University quarterback, suffered a Lisfranc ligament sprain in his foot during the Sun Devils' win over Baylor on September 20, 2025. The injury lingered and worsened over the following weeks, causing him to miss games (such as against Utah) and play through pain in others (like against Texas Tech and Houston). He re-aggravated it in the October 25 loss to Houston, after which he underwent season-ending surgery in early November 2025 to repair the damage. The procedure requires a 5-6 month recovery period, sidelining him for the remainder of the 2025 season and into spring 2026. As of the team's December 7 banquet, Leavitt has not publicly commented on his long-term plans, but reports indicate transfer speculation amid his ongoing rehabilitation.

Sounds to me he’d be good to go by fall camp.

I don't know who to believe on recovery time. His mobility is a big part of his game. Here's what one medical website says:

quote:

What is the Typical Recovery Timeline?
Recovery timelines depend on the severity of the injury and surgical approach:

* 0–6 weeks: Non-weight-bearing with focus on swelling control and gentle range-of-motion exercises.

* 6–12 weeks: Transition to partial weight-bearing, and begin light strengthening exercises.

* 3–6 months: Full weight-bearing and progressive rehabilitation for strength and mobility.

* 6–12 months: Return to sports or high-impact activities, depending on progress

Damaged. Do not want to put all eggs in basket coming back from this injury.

Wasn't there a baseball player with this kind of injury that ended up missing an entire year longer than was expected? I know it can take a long time to heal

Not sure. But it’s not an easy one to come back from. Especially a guy whose mobility is an attribute of his game.

I sure as hell wouldn’t go throwing huge sums of Nil money at him.

Leavitt is the best QB in the portal. Will bring Pavia/Mateer level hype. Lane can work with him. He reminds me of Bo Nix when he matured at Oregon.

But does he have two feet that allow him to be mobile ?

To be frank this is the top thing I'd be worried about with taking someone like Leavitt. He cant even go through spring practice and I think for a QB transfer thats almost vital.

To expect a QB transfer to just pick things up in August with 4 weeks of practice prior to the season and have any chemistry is a huge assumption. Joey Aguilar is probably one of the better examples of one of those working out that didnt go through spring at new school.

Jake Retzlaff at Tulane as well but he certainly didnt have a great season. His passer rating was sub 140.

Unless there is just no other alternatives, I think you pass as even with the best case scenario he isn't getting reps until the fall and he will garner a high price tag.

Worst case scenario, he is not even ready to play until mid season or later. It is not uncommon for these injuries to take a longer recovery and this guy is what he is because of his mobility.

Can we get a pinned Leavitt thread? I mean got damn people act like he's the only got damn QB that's going to transfer this year. Trust me, there will be plenty transfer QBs who are better than Leavitt will be next year coming off injury.

I would love at least one article that is leading all of you to believing Leavitt won’t be back by the fall. Stop making stuff up.

This could actually favor both sides. Say for instance that he understands his situation and has eligibility to let it heal properly.

Should LSU get Chambliss on appeal for one season, if the price were right to allow Leavitt to recover and learn the offense his first year, this arrangement would be ideal.

And Leavitt does have 2 years of eligibility left.

IIRC, Matt Mauck suffered a Lisfranc injury part way through the '02 season. He had surgery during the season and returned for the '03 season. We all remember the '03 season results, don't we?? There are a lot of variables that will play a role in Leavitt's recovery, variables TD is not aware of.
