I dont think it's that simple. Even Davis said we're running 4th for him right now but hiring Freeman would push us up (he didnt say to the top).

He also said he only has talked with Kelvin Sheppard since he decommitted and hasn't talked to Coach O the last couple weeks, so that tells me Coach O doesnt seem to think he's that high a possibility. Consider the season is over, and sure we're trying to hire new coaches, but Coach O has plenty of time to keep in contact with the very few recruits we're going after right now.

Would love to have him back on board though for sure, he's a definite take. We certainly offer a lot of early playing time when you think about it, we played basically only 3 linebackers all season long; Cox, Clark and Baskerville. All other linebackers played a total of 15 snaps. Cox is gone and Clark and Baskerville weren't exactly lighting the world on fire with their play.

Per Greg Biggins subscription article, he interviews Davis.

During that interview Davis stated that he and coach Orgeron have not been in contact at all during the last two weeks.

Hate to break it, but ship has sailed on Raesjon Davis. O absolutely demands constant contact and communication with recruits they are pursuing (Learned that from his book “meat market” by Bruce Feldman)

For him to discontinue contact like that means he has discontinued the relationship building process. And the only reason he would do that is because he no longer is recruiting the kid, IMO.

EDIT: I reread Biggins article, and it is worth noting that Davis mentions he has maintain contact with LSU analyst Kelvin Sheppard (just not communicated directly with Coach O during the last two weeks).

He also stated that he understands Coach O has been very busy the last couple weeks trying to get the staff together. Him and his dad seem like they would be very excited if we hired Freeman. I honestly believe there’s a good chance we get him back if we hire him

If that would be the case with him wanting back in if we get Freeman, he should at least get that info to CEO via phone or text.

This dragging things out IRT the coordinators is KILLING kids desire to play here. Can you imagine what all the other coaches are selling to these kids in the negative light IRT LSU right now.

Strong took his spot.

I can understand Davis cooling on LSU with the issues and uncertainty of last season mixed with distance. Freeman has the potential to get him back on board due to his rising status and being a LB coach on top of hot DC candidate. It may be too late, but it's probably our best shot to get him back and we need LB help as bad as any other position.

Honestly though, would you keep a commitment to a school that just fired half the staff? I'd open it back up too if I were him. I don't think it's drama, it's just smart. LSU can still sign him, but until the unknowns are cleared up, I wouldn't sign here either. As far as O not talking to him, he's got a full plate right now, and finding the right DC and OC are top priorities.

Yeah people need to get off the "who cares he gone, he didnt want us" train. He's 2000 miles away, we fired his position coach and DC and there's a lot of uncertainty. He helped put together a lot of our class so it's not like he isn't invested at all. He just wasn't going to sit around and sign early without even knowing who would be coaching him or calling the defense. I can get that.

Davis is a no-brainer take IMO if he does want back on board, I just hope Coach O feels the same if it comes down to hiring Freeman and he does want back in. We definitely replaced him with Strong in the class, but linebacker is one of the worst rooms on the team IMO where we need to get every elite player we can get on our hands on. Imagine this season without Jabril Cox....yikes.

I’ve seen so many people on here say this yet every insider on pay sites says no such thing. They don’t even play the same position. If davis wants back in he has a spot

If he let that piss him off and doesn't recruit him based on it, he doesn't need to recruit anyone again. The guy is not drama you can't expect a fricking kid to sign the dotted line on a dumpster fire program without a DC at that point. He can't commit to a school he won't even know who his DC will be. It's not like he punked LSU and was playing games. Get that shite out of here.

Get over your feelings hurt. LSU needs LBs and is dangerously close to that position being awful. We need someone like this in it with Strong.
