Beast
This kid is going to be special. Look at that intensity and fire. Aranda just got us a big piece to the defense. He's quick and strong like Beckwith possibly even stronger. He repped 225 28xs. Look how violent he his with his hands to disengage from blockers and of course form tackling lowering the boom. This guy is highly underrated. Congrats Layton Geaux Tigers!!!

Yes it's a very nice situation for us. LB will still be a need in recruiting next year so having Garnett in the development pipeline is nice since Aranda likes him.

Great news!
He does have good instincts and, watching his film, my first question was speed.
If he can lose a little weight and be an effective lateral pursuit guy, he could get some PT. Good pickup.

He'll be on scholarship before '16 season is over.

He was a monster as a sophomore at MLB. Was out his junior year with an ankle injury. Moved over and bulked up to play DE to help WM this year. He can drop weight and gain speed fairly quick imo.

JJ, how does he compare to Javahn Fergurson last year who a lot of people thought could eventually earn a scholarship as a walk on? (I think he ended up at New Mexico State though)

You know those clips where Aranda isolates a big strong fast LB on a blitz against a RB in pass protection and the LB just blows the RB up. Imagine Garnett being that LB!

Sophomore Highlights
This should be a better representative of what you're looking for instead of DE highlights as a senior.

So what schools offered him a scholarship?

Alright! Welcome aboard, Layton!!!

Kid uses his hands really well, and he's got a mean streak. You can see it in his body language.
We need more kids like this. Good pull here.

Welcome aboard and you are now part of Tiger Nation. Nice highlights from his sophomore year playing MLB. Very seldom did he lose ground when making first contact.

That's awesome!
We need LBs, and he is very good for a walk on.

Layton Garnett is just another reason why Devin White will not be a MLB here.
Garnett is a beast with roughly somewhere between 4.6 to 4.8 speed in the 40. That is actually very good speed for a MLB.
This kid is already NFL strong for a linebacker with 28 reps as a high schooler. Name another high school kid that can throw down 28 reps of 225lbs anywhere?? I've personally never seen a high school kid bench 225lbs that many times.
In addition to being around 6'2" 240lbs with decent speed, the kid has all the intangibles and heart to become a great player. It's awesome that he is going to be here at LSU, and he is going to contribute in numerous ways.
