I mean BK was able to bring in #1 transfer classes just like Lane and sign Jayden Daniels. His recruiting wasn’t the issue at least at first, he could bring in lots of talent

The issue was he was a bad coach who had no concept of the cultural fit needed here and his effort declined significantly over the years

I agree with this but also think it's true that Lane has vastly outworked BK already. Lane is just that insane.

To be fair I think Brian come in here with the understanding that he’d have a little more administrative support and built in NIL structure in place. Woodward handcuffed him and the NIL mechanism at LSU initially. I honestly think BK just gave up and didn’t have the interest in fighting back or ruffling any more feathers with the buyout he was sitting on. But he definitely brought in coaches that could recruit better than they could coach so he didn’t have too I assume. But you aren’t wrong, Lane knows how to get things done start to finish.

I truly think Kelly saw "idiots" like Coach O and and Les Miles win titles and thought it must be easy. He thought those morons could win titles here so I as a "smarter coach" can put it on cruise control and win one easily.

cultural fit
. What th frick is this? I’ve seen it repeated over and over again, like a mantra. If Brian Kelly had won football games consistently, culture would’ve had literally zero to do with anything.

- more like semi retarded.

Holy shite I actually read it as retarded the first time and didn't even realize that's not what it said until now. Retarded just seem to be the right word.

or are we just spending a lot more money now on.the portal than we did in the past? we now have money for a $50 mill buyout plus are out spending everyone else in the portal. Knew we had some deep pockets but seems ours are dsuddenly much deeper than everyone else by a lot

The problem was Kelly’s ability to fill out the roster as well, he couldn’t retain much depth from his HS classes and his portal classes were pretty front loaded, so any misses in the portal REALLY stung

This roster overall feels better top to bottom than any roster Kelly came with

I don't remember this level of excitement for portal season, ever- or hearing about it being this way elsewhere. Kelly would get some good players (didn't we have the #1 class recently?), but it seemed like we'd just hear about it when we were going into spring training, not these daily updates. This is like an extended Black Friday shopping spree where you hung on sites like Slickdeals, wanting to get in on time-limited sales.

I thought someone said Kiffin didn't like recruiting, but that seems extremely off as of now. It sure seems like he's having the time of his life wheeling and dealing
