Caleb Williams, Quinn Ewers, Justin Fields, etc, would say yes

Caleb transferred to follow his coach. Not at all a typical transfer.

Well, when you narrow the field to only guys that can run it becomes a lot tougher to find a QB.

Yea, I've got inside sources at 3 random football programs.
Perhaps you don't follow college football. This is not some hot take. Gabriel and Howard have a highly-recruited freshman behind them, so the schools were ready to move on to the new era, or risk losing their young QB to the portal. These schools can't afford to pay major NIL money to two QBs, with one of them not playing.
McCord was told they were bringing in a transfer and his job was not secure, nor his NIL money.
This is public knowledge.

Gabriel? To who?

It’s a good reason to maybe not take a QB this cycle. Hold out for a guaranteed future superstar, and LSU could be the No 1 spot those guys are looking for next year.

I really hope Nuss can find his mojo quickly and be dominant right away.
That being said I think LSU would’ve been smart to make a harder push for DJ Uiagalelei, though I realize he’s not the fan favorite on TD for whatever reason.

Remember that when the “it’s year 3, time to expect a championship” posts start.

I’m not suggesting LSU shouldn’t take a QB in the portal. I think they should. Just pointing out it’s a weak crop.
Time will tell if it’s as bad as 2023, which was awful.

5-star Jackson Arnold. Probably the best QB in the 2023 class.

The portal QB craze reminds me a lot of the draft. QBs who don’t deserve to be top 10 picks rise to the top because teams press so hard and the need for QBs. Same is happening here… Miami is about to unload silly money for a QB that’s was a backup or at a small school with no competition. It’s wild.

Bo Nix and Michael Penix both followed their former offensive coordinators.
Following a former coach is a big theme of the portal and very “typical”

And Ohio State forced out Kyle McCord, who was solid, not great, for a QB to be named later - just taking a flier on the portal. Could be better, could be worse.
Crazy

What a ridiculous expectation. When has any LSU first year QB starter EVER been dominant year 1? You're not being remotely fair. Not even Burrow or Daniels, both eventual Heisman winners, were dominant in their first year.

Why? Because he's a scrambling QB like Daniels? People are so narrow-minded.
Uiagalelei isn't going anywhere he doesn't have a starting spot.
Nussmeier has earned the opportunity to be favored for the job. You'd like to bring in someone good to compete but transfer portal guys are looking for playing time, so you're chances of bringing in someone comparable or better than Nuss are slim.
You also can't keep screwing over your HS recruited talent year after year. At some point you have to develop a QB in house.

you don’t boot a guy like Gabriel for a guy who threw 24 passes.
Gabriel left

Who was "that guy" that you saw last year?

Jayden Daniels, Michael Penix and Bo Nix werent great QBs hitting the portal when they did.
