Saban wanted Young at WR.

LSU recruited the New Orleans area very hard, but with George Eames, head of La. NAACP against LSU, it was very hard to get the good black athlete in New Orleans. Dinardo starting Herb Tyler at QB showed black community that LSU would allow a black guy to play QB.

The backbone of the 97 Michigan title team wasn't Charles Woodson but the running of Anthony Thomas from Winnfield. Guys just didn't want to play for LSU back then.

Didn't help either with racism label from Archer. My dad played for Archer said the dude was all about politics and BS. And then of course Curley sucked arse too.

LSU wanted both those guys, the state of the program didn't even have LSU on the radar unfortunately. NO players were not coming to LSU prior to Saban.

That's bullshite or just ignorance. Dinardo was the one that turned things around in NOLA.

Butch forgot to mention that he didn't offer one either. Santana Moss was a walk on before earning a scholarship.

This thread is filled with fail on recruiting history.

But one thing is accurate: pre-Dinardo, Colorado, Tenn, FSU, Miami, and Michigan all got key members of championship teams out of Louisiana.

Kevin Faulk is the most important recruit in the modern era of LSU football, and that is not debateable. A close second is the trio of Hill/Spears/Clayton.

Imagine if Raynoch Thompson, Ed Reed, Ike Hilliard, Reggie Wayne, all of the Josephs, Dunn, Minor, Anthony Thomas, had ended up at LSU?

Though Thomas would have been here with Faulk, Mealy, Collins and Cleveland. I don't care how good he was at Michigan, we didn't miss him.

To me the guy that hurt the most to lose in the 90s was Isaac Hilliard. It was like 'we just allowed a Hilliard go to Florida-what the hell are we doing!?!'

Reed played as a true freshman on one of the best teams in the nation. Can't blame him.

Didn't see his name mentioned but shouldn't Kordell Stewart's name be in this discussion?

Spot on. First stop Dinardo made on the recruiting trail following his hire.

Correct. As I said earlier Faulk made it cool to come to LSU again. All eyes on 3 shaved in his head . I believe his first game was against Texas A&M and they zoomed in on our future superstar. I saw that carved in his head and laughed. Dinardo always recruited pretty well and Faulk obviously helped recruiting and also getting maybe our first starting black QB Herb Tyler out of New Orleans...That certainly helped recruiting that area. He didn't hire good coaches after the good ones left. Old Lou Tepper happened. Saban's cupboard wasn't bare though.

Dinardo lived at WM in the 90's. He was always there. Then again he did pull a lot of kids from us, but he earned it.

[quote]his. He's insunuating that he (miami) did more homework than even the home team to uncover these diamonds in the rough. [b]It's laughable[/b
Not really, Miami had all those trophies and we didn't have jack...I remember the agony of watching the NO kids (Wayne was the city 200 meter sprint champ or close to it) [b]leave.

I remember saban recruited Vince Young as a DB. And wasn't there a similar issue with Tebow? Miles recruited him but didn't assure him that he'd play QB?

Tebow's parents are both UF graduates. The only other school that Tebow was considering was Bama. He loved Mike Shula who was going to change his system so that Tebow would be a fit at QB. FYI - Jimbo Fisher was responsible for recruiting Tebow to LSU.

Why wow? Williams was the #1 RB in the country. We had 0 shot of getting Minor to come to LSU. He was following Dunn's footsteps to FSU. LSU knew they had no chance of getting Minor.
