being Mr tough guy who played 19 years and is the HOF doesn't mean shite. I dunno why you guys keep going that route. its a board for talking sports, not varsity tryouts.

There is an acknowledgment that all common fans need to make when making suggestions like this. And it is acknowledging that you very likely cannot tell what is bad coaching vs what is poor talent.
of course this is true. we don't go to practice and see who listens to instruction or works hard or understand why the shots are not falling or who isn't running the play properly etc.
last year it appeared to me that the players couldn't shoot. bailey and givens in particular. now how I am I supposed to assume that was bad coaching? maybe those guys just cant shoot. not everyone can.
now, I could assume that the coach did poor recruiting and analysis. but really do coaches even do that? isn't that largely up to the financiers?

If your team struggles from the perimeter, then maybe run an offense that doesn’t have the guards play catch on the perimeter for the first 20 seconds of the shot clock.

Exactly.
LSU was 4th in the SEC in three point attempts per game. Yet dead last in 3 point FG %. Early in the season McMahon said often “this was a better 3 point shooting team than the game results were showing”. It was very clear very early they weren’t. But that didn’t stop LSU from launching away all season.
Which goes back to coaching. You may have thought your team had certain strengths to start the season. But once it became clear they didn’t you have to change course. He doesn’t. He stays with the predetermined plan despite the results clearly not working

Can we at least act a little optimistic? Or do we continue to settle for gloom and doom when looking at our basketball coach and players?
I remain optimistic! Geaux Tigers!

I’m optimistic. I’m also a realist who knows that McMahon would have made Cooper Flagg into Andrew Del Piero.

Broom averaged 3 Pfs a game his first season at Auburn
He was an instant impact at Auburn his first year there and he averaged 14/8

And we started benching the one big getting boards and playing D.

What are McMahon's responsibilities? Everything is always someone else's fault.

Lots of players struggle shooting in the early years of college. Game is faster. Have to shoot it faster. Learn runners etc. that’s taught by coaches. We just don’t have anyone that can teach shooting form.
And you say we haven’t seen practices. I talk to a guy who has made at least a quarter of the practices. It’s bad. He’s the one who actually told me at the beginning of the season we will be lucky to place 14th in the SEC.
You would also be shocked to hear how a former coach talks about the team and coach. They actually both said on day 1 we better get it into the post each possession. What does McMahon do? Opposite.

Dedan played in the Mountain West man. That whole league has a pulse
The upper half really does, but the bottom 4/5 teams are horrible Air Force, Wyoming, Fresno st., San Jose St. I think 3/4 of those only had single digit wins.

We should get V Miller, Chest and Jefferson to round out the team.
Whelp, two of three are out for sure. Chest to Ole Miss and V Miller to Okie St. Jefferson isn’t even in the portal and is just a rumor

college is like the pros now. you have to get ownership to pay for players.
some programs are like the dodgers and others are like the marlins.

You talk to him at games?

Ever think his comment was made when he had Reed as an inside threat and Ward as a 42% three point shooter in the plans.

You think the boosters are the ones doing the scouting and recruiting?

no, what I meant was that who the coach can recruit/afford is largely up to the money people

But, but, but Matt Mascona is out there hyping up this portal class with "bags of cash".
Last year's portal class was ranked #12 in the country and we stunk of the league!!!
This coming year won't be anything to brag about but please McMahon lovers continue the narrative of he just needs time
