when they lose out on a player the story goes that Bama never offered?

Definately propaganda, does any one think they didn't really offer Clowney?

Richardson wasn't committed to anyone until signing day, that's why he had the announcement at his high school. That's the first I've ever heard of him committing to LSU then switching back to Bama because some Bama players visited him. My point was that everyone thought we had a shot at Richardson all along but the reality of it was that he had his mind made up for Bama long before signing day.
Story is mostly true from the way I remember it. Not sure if it was players are Saban him self but that doesn't really matter.

I'm still trying to grasp the "non-committable" offer thing... If it's non-committable, then how can it be an offer?
Posted on 6/7/12 at 11:14 am to Cincinnati Bowtie
i'm not positive, but it might not be a 100% scholorship.. the athlete might have to pay for books/rent/etc
ETA: maybe one of the recruiting heavyweights can weigh in on this, but i think that's how it works

Just because the staff offers a scholly doesnt mean they have to accept it at that time. All the big schools do it. Many of the prospects are fall back options.

Non-committable offer equals, "we really like you but right now there are some players we like more so if they go elsewhere, then we will accept your commitment."

Sonny (who I do not believe would lie about this) has said that LSU coaches believed Richardson was switching to LSU on signing day, but obviously that did not happen, for one reason or another. On the live feed that morning, they did show AJ McCarron, DJ Fluker and McCarron's father there in support of Trent. According to Bama Rivals mods at the time, it was an impromptu decision they made that morning, supposedly after the switch rumors started swirling.

the 3-4 4-3 talk is pointless when considering draftability. Lsu is about to put 2 DE's in the first round that are built nothing like RN,
Alabama had a "block eater" drafted 3rd overall last year. He played inside, outside, and even dropped into coverage and was considered quite a pass rusher from the 3-4 end spot. I don't get all the hate for 3-4 ends, they can be drafted just as high if not higher than the 4-3 guys. If there was a position RN was tailor made for it's 3-4 DE

Back to the topic, lol, Doesn't it seem that Saban never gets beat on a player he wants? Or is it this propoganda machine that, when they lose out on a player the story goes that Bama never offered?
Well as soon as they lose out on a guy it becomes," He never had a real offer" or "He doesnt fit in with our system"
We do the same thing but Saban gets the media on his side as well

i agree... lets be honest, RN could play anywhere he wants in the front 7 and have a great shot at being successful.. he's just that gifted.. it's just going to come down to where HE wants to play ball at... can't lose either way IMO, bama and/or LSU will have him more than prepared for the NFL, just look at the defensive prospects they've put in the league

There are Coaches that were on LSU's Staff at that time that say Richardson was coming here but was bought. Remember what Saban said to the St Aug Coaches regarding Fournette also: " Money won't be the reason if he (Fournette) doesn't come to Bama."
So you are implying that in the end Bama will pay off Nkemdiche too? There is one problem with this scenario, are not Nkemdiche's parents pretty well off...his dad is a surgeon, right?
It might be pretty easy to pay off a kid from a poor family as in Richardson, however paying off a kid from a high income family would seem to be fruitless (unless it was really big money).

The kids going to Bama. And no I don't have any sources or inside info.
It's what my inclination has been from the beginning.
I guess wishful thinking is the fun part of recruiting though.
This.

I know most would laugh at this....but, i'm hearing its an OM/LSU battle. My brother and sister went to OM (don't know where they went wrong) and they are OBSESSED with his recruitment. Neal McCready....the RebelGrove insider recently came out saying its b/w OM/LSU
I went to Ole Miss.
Every year they think they are going to get the best players in the country if they are listed in the top 20 for them.
I have several friends that think Joe McKnight wanted to come to Ole Miss and actually committed, but backed out because USC paid his mom more.
They also believe, year in and year out, that they are getting 5 stars from all over. It never fricking happens. Usually the Ole Miss hat isn't even on the table during the "big reveal".
They all make it up and it snowballs from their message boards to the students to the parents.
