Thanks

2 years left after playing 2 years at Garden City. His stats are pretty underwhelming but the staff seems to really like him so I trust them.

Unless he is going to step in right away and start. It's a waist of Scholarship.

that's your opinion. I'm of the opinion that the staff knows what they are doing when it comes to recruiting

LSU is (likely) losing much of their DL/OLB depth. Lawrence and Fehoko are gone. Divinity is as well and probably so is Chassion.
Thomas has already left the team.
So you are going to be left with Ferrell, Logan, some true freshman and multiple underwhelming vets who hardly see the field for a team (this season) that could use some more DL/OLB depth.
They probably think Gaye, at minimum, is physically ready to step in right away.

Like all Juco players, he has three years to play two.

Why wouldn’t Shelvin play?

No, not “all”.
But I think in his case, yes.

Let’s assume Logan stays. We will have:
Logan
Ferrell
Shelvin (unless he declares)
Ika
Evans
Williams
Fonua
Jenkins
Of the 9 listed, only 5 are proven. We will need Gaye to provide depth because of his physical maturity. That will give you a 6 man rotation which then you can hope one or two of your unproven guys step up. That will also allow you to slowly work in the freshmen linemen.
The key will be to hold on to Shelvin, Logan and Ferrell with Ika and Evans the first off the bench. That is not a terrible rotation. We had far worse over the last 6-7 years.

Don't forget Cherry and McClendon.

If we get Burch, that should cure any worries

Roy will be getting a lot of playing time as a Freshman on the DL. I can’t imagine that won’t be the case. It would be nice to have both he and Burch on that DL for the next 3 years.

HE will play at 6'6" 275-290lbs. He by far has the best length of any DL we have on the roster. And I see tremendous upside for him.

Most Juco Defiensive Lineman stats are underwhelming. Isaiah Buggs was one of the top Juco players in the country and started every game in his two years at Bama, but he only had 7.5 sacks in his two years of Juco ball.
With Gaye they know that he is very projectable with a SEC ready frame, with a little coaching up he can easily step in and play next year.
