I put this in another topic but felt it deserves its own thread. When the game/season is on the line the player with the heart will rise above the one playing for the cash. NIL may lure talent but it will also motivate selfishness. Heart is selfless. We are getting the players who want to wear the purple and gold. That’s who we want. GEAUX TIGERS!!!

I agree, heart can be just as good as ability. Just look how lsu improved when a lot of starters went out. Anyone with a chip on their shoulder works harder. You have to find the guys who are great and want to continuously improve.

Cash will win you 10 numb championships in 20 years.

Heart may win you 1 historical championship in 100 years.

You can have heart.. and wait for it.. get paid accordingly.

Stop acting like NIL is some evil force. Iowa State has a ton of heart. They’re never winning a damn championship EVER

It’s almost 2022. This isn’t fricking Hoosiers. You need the most talented players to win

Totally disagree. Evidence doesn’t support your view.

Morally yes. But these kids arent thinking about that when you're offering them more money than they and their families have seen.

That’s why Bama is getting their shite kicked in?

Bama also isn’t what they once were! They didn’t kick everyone’s butt this year and they would have lost to a more veteran LSU team this year.

There is definitely merit to what he’s saying but there will also be a balance you will need to strike and I’m not sure that Bama is doing that at this time. Bama is more vulnerable than they’ve ever been at this time and LSU can definitely take a slightly different approach to this and field the better team with more heart but also have plenty of talent to beat anyone.

We aren’t Iowa State, this is LSU and we have plenty of instate talent to accomplish what the man is getting at. I’d take a team full of Devon White players before I take a team full of Dylan Moses type players all day long!

There are some things that more money, fame, and national recognition won’t buy, just like some things are worse than dying. Everyone is free to do what they want but for a kid who grows up a big LSU fan to go to Bama seems sacrilegious. Would be like going to join the Chinese army for me.

You are getting a good look at the future right now. Either I start, or I leave. No sense of honor towards the school. LSU was lucky w/players dads having played at LSU , along w/a handful of players committing to the school itself.

I think the usual formulation is whether motivation or talent is more important.

College athletics is a different animal, but in general I think the conventional wisdom is motivation is greater than talent, but motivated talent is the best of all.

If heart is all that matters then just hold a tryout and pick the team. The guys willing to show up to the tryout love LSU the most and the ones that try the hardest have the most heart.

Lsu fans with a mid-major mindset is cringe. Even after all of LSUs success people can't break the battered syndrome.

NOBODY gives a shite about "honor", even at schools like Alabama. People are practical. There's no mythical spiritual awakening that leads anyone to LSU or any other school.

They have 1 goal, prepare themselves to get into the NFL as a professional and if their parents can come watch them play, then do that.

This is true of any college student. Prepare yourself for the next step after college.

Hmm, then why do the best recruiting teams win year in and year out?

What was the last national championship team that didn't average a top 10 recruiting class over that 5 year period leading into the natty?

I'll have to deep dive into that when I have time. Got to work on setting up a graduation party for my son, got his degree from LSU yesterday!

Agreed. Those kids playing for San Diego St, Tulsa, and New Mexico St are the real winners here.
