Finley just doesn’t have that it factor. I watched him in person a few times and I just don’t see the kid panning out. He doesn’t move well at all and from talking to people that know him well, he’s not a good teammate or leader of his team.
I have heard the same things from some folks very close to the program.

What you are describing sounds like Troy Aikman to me.

Yes to all of that. Having said that Florida and Bama adjusted and tightened up their pass defense and took away the short stuff. Had we been able to run through routes and progressions we might challenge them. But we do not, pass protect well, enough to do that. Even MSU to,an extent took away any longer developing pass play.
We could not pass protect against Southeastern.

I noticed Finley had a 47% completion percentage this season... not exactly a great stat considering he’s against high school competition, I would expect at least 60%.
It's so hard to tell with Finley, when you watch him play, you see the talent and in the end almost wonder how he's only completing under 50% of his passes. The rest of the team around him is pretty dogcrap, especially the defense, so that doesnt help from a confidence building standpoint...but Finley definitely needs to improve a lot his senior year or his spot could somehow get in jeopardy. We just cant be taking big time projects at QB any more, we need more polished guys than ones we "hope" can develop accuracy after 2-3 years in college. We've just seen the same story over and over with guys who struggle with accuracy in high school and never translate here in college.
This is one of those cases I think it would almost be good if Finley could go to an IMG type school his senior year and play in an offense suited for him with development and Ponchatoula can go back to their veer.

When did everyone sour so much on Finley?
He was always a project, but he is getting some real hate on this thread.
Some might be hate, but facts are facts in some cases. He completed 47% of his passes this season, however you slice it, that's really bad and definitely worrisome. Bad accuracy has basically never translated to good QB play in college.

Your description of Max sounds like how people would have described his Dad. Did Brad have a great arm or ideal throwing motion?

YOU take the best QB you can get, period. What ever label you want to put on him doesn't really matter at all. Brennan supposedly has a very live aRm but isn't a great runner, but he was the best we could get in that class, so we took him. PaRRIsh is supposed to be a really good runner and fairly good passer, but he was the best we could get in that class, so we took him.
You take the best players you can get. All this other stuff about 'fitting the system' is just a bunch of bs that tards on message boards think about
I see absolutely no reason to recruit an inaccurate passer and I see no reason to recruit a guy who doesn't fit what you do.
The one thing you can't teach a qb is accuracy. You can fix or scheme around every thing else but if they can't make the throws then I don't care if they can hit Texas from here.
I don't care how good they are if they can't perform in your system then they are a waste of a scholarship.
Giles was a beast at Texas Tech. He doesn't fit our system and he doesn't fit in this league, he should've never been offered.

Thought Finley was told no other QB would be pursued.
The best (QB) programs pursue multiple QBs and sign two each year. I.E. Sou Cal, Georgia, Ohio St, UCLA, etc.

Johnson is better, much better than Finley at this point and is probably the highest rated QB (consensus wise) that we have a real shot at. So, yeah geaux all in! And of course always have a pulse on the best transfer/JUCO option since that has been our best play at QB procurement for the past decade. Dead serious right there:)>

Over the years, Leach has learned one of the most important things quarterbacks need that can’t be taught is accuracy.
“People make this mistake all over the country, and everybody can think of one, but there will be a guy who is big, strong and athletic, and everyone gets tempted by speed and if someone has a super strong arm.”
“Then they say ‘Well all he has to do is work on his accuracy. Well ok. He won’t be accurate in high school. Then some college will take him, and then he won’t be accurate there, and then the NFL says ‘all he has to do is work on his accuracy,’ and they’ll take him there, and he won’t be accurate there and then he’ll be out of the league.”
“The thing that’s amazing to me, is that after all of high school he’s not accurate, and now all of a sudden you’re special and you’re going to make him accurate? And then after college he’s not accurate, and you’re special and you’re going to make him accurate? I just haven’t seen that happen. I’ve seen guys improve, but they don’t all of a sudden become accurate.”
i'd say leach, the father of the modern college offense, knows a bit about these things

This is so true and was discussing this at work the other day.
I was saying cam Newton is not accurate and I said he has gotten a little better and the other person said no he's accurate.

Guys I coaches against Finley. He is not a division 1 quarterback. If LSU is depending on that kid to come in and lead us oh well! He is a small college or juco Qb.
