Marvin Wilson A 5-star recruit from Episcopal High School in Houston, Texas, Wilson said one of the biggest impressions during his recruitment was Florida State’s honey fried chicken, calling it the best chicken he’d ever had.

Here’s a personal story I know of.
I don’t want to use his name because of privacy reasons.
But a Louisiana LB was a 3 star - 4 star recruit. In the summer him and his mom were in Saban’s office with Jimbo in there.
Saban told the recruit I’m going to offer you a committable scholarship but you have to accept right here right now.
The recruit sat in silent for a few seconds and then his mom said “You better open your mouth and tell Coach Saban you’re going to LSU.”
That always makes me laugh knowing how the recruit was raised and is such a good person he and his family are.

I have posted on some form of Tigerdroppings since 2001
Ryan Perrilloux was the first mega-battle in the internet era. That said, I think Joe McKnight probably overtook him a few years later.
One that is kind of slept on though was Jacob Hester. Hester had committed to Texas and famously got a Longhorn tattoo. Evangel of course was rolling in the early 2000's, and everyone in Louisiana had known who Jacob Hester was. If i recall, LSU was a bit cool on him to start. But his recruitment was pretty huge on the local internets.

Who was the big time recruit that kept the ongoing journal? Maybe a linebacker? Think he went ham about his Florida trip maybe?

The saga of Billy Cannon Jr. Every Tiger in the state was bummed when he signed with Texas A&M.

The WR auburn eventually got out of east St. John (I believe) that one hurt. Back in 2013-14?
Guys used to have cooler names. D'haquille Williams. Hootie Jones. Speedy Noil. Amp Hill. Brock Berlin. Rueben Randle. Lache Seastrunk.
Guys don't have cool names anymore.

quote:Marvin Wilson. I was ready to give up on O after he lost out on him and Cam Akers in the same class.
Can’t remember his name but some 5 star kid that picked Florida State over us because they had good honey chicken wings was pretty crazy. Was a DL if I remember correctly

That was so cool. He was great and I think usf was where his parents wanted him to go. The big Florida schools dropped the ball big time on this one

One of my favorites has always been Terrance Tolliver’s. If I remember correctly he had family that played at LSU. He was from Texas. CUM at UF had him convinced to go there. Because he lied that LSU did not have any academic support structure for their athletes. He came back from the UF visit basically a silent to them . He talked to his high school coach and guidance counselor about this lie that CUM had fed him (Cox was already open). So the coach and GC who, thankfully had the kids best interest in mind, traveled on their own dime to investigate LSU deeper for him. They went to BR and found out the really real. Came back and laid out all the info to TT80 committed to LSU and the rest is history.

Of the ones not mentioned, it was fun to follow Terrelle Pryor when there was smoke LSU was in the running
"The Seminole Trio" - Andre Debose, Ray Ray Armstrong, and can't remember the other one we were battling for
Being bummed when Cassius Marsh flipped

I don’t know if he was considering going anywhere else, but he was, more than anyone else, the catalyst for that brought LSU out of the fall into college football irrelevance.
He was a strong lean (to FSU, IIRC) to leaving the state, because of the "state" of LSU football at that moment.
Recall we had the worst coach in the history of coaching and he had just been fired. Dinardo was hired away from Vandy because he had only a "barely losing" record there (and he would take the job).
I honestly don't remember the order but Dinardo either went directly to Faulk's house to pitch that he was going to build the entire offense around him OR he did his introductory press conference and then went to Faulk's house. Either way, explaining to Kevin Faulk that he would be the face of the rebirth of LSU football was the first or second official act Dinardo took as the head football coach.

Ishmael Sopsher and his brother (Rodney I think?) and the Amite barber. That is as classic of a Louisiana recruiting tale as they come. And ended exactly how you'd expect it to.

Keiland Williams (and his calve to ankle ratio) was a big one not mentioned so far

jerelle Poe . had some eligibility issues and someone created a fax, allegedly from poe, that said, "I won go oh miss.' i still laugh when i think about it. I think he played in the nfl for a while.
