It was wild getting to see up close college recruiting of Lache.

Man only a few of us remember and still have ptsd.

Joe McKnight was the worse I’ve ever seen this board freak out.
Landon Collins also sucked.
Gunnar Kiel was more “wtf” and kind of fun.

Reuben Randle was my favorite.
That one was wild. Deangelo Benton was a commit the year before, then had to spend a year at prep school but was committed again to LSU. Rueben Randle is the #1 overall recruit and is uncommitted up until signing day.
The rumor was that Randle wasn’t going to go to LSU, to avoid competing with his former Bastrop teammate. Instead, he goes to LSU and Benton goes elsewhere in the SEC (maybe Auburn?)

I always think of K’Lavon Chaisson. Ed Orgeron went to Houston and met with him at the 11th hour to get him to LSU. It was what really solidified him as an elite recruiter for me.
Also, Kevin Faulk. I don’t know if he was considering going anywhere else, but he was, more than anyone else, the catalyst for that brought LSU out of the fall into college football irrelevance. By staying in state he really stopped the bleeding of recruits going out of state. Kids started to see that they didn’t need to leave the state to be successful.
At least, until Saban became head coach at Alabama and took advantage of the relationships he cultivated while at LSU.

Jojo Earle flipping to Bama on NSD (or eve) freeing up a scholarship for Malik Nabers
I remember being in high school when Amp Hill committed and my dad (kind of a big recruiting guy lol) and I talking about how LSU is now an elite program
Jerrell Powe committing at the Army AA game was crazy
Studrawa and Les being on the bus heading to practice in Nola in preparation for the MNC vs Bama and the Collins family telling Stud that Landon would commit to LSU. Then 15 minutes later he committed to Bama
In one of Saban’s very first classes, he signed a LB out of Florida — Pope? — that he felt was the best in the country. I think the guy got messed up one night and drove a car through a house … LSU administrators wouldn’t admit him after that.
Those just off the top of my head.

Correct. Although I think Benton is 2 years older.
The WR auburn eventually got out of east St. John (I believe) that one hurt. Back in 2013-14?
That guy was a handful until he got injured.

1982, Garry James(West Jeff), Norman Jefferson and Tyrone Vaughans(Ehret), were 3 of the biggest recruits in the state. James and Jefferson signed with LSU and Vaughans signed with Tulane, Jefferson and James had outstanding careers at LSU, Vaughans was a bust at Tulane .

Wasn’t one his first classes, but I was in the Monroe area when we had Robert Lane committed and the story going around at the time was Jamarcus Russell committing late in the process would have processed Matt Flynn, who was also committed. Story was that Saban told Lane that he was going to take Flynn’s scholarship off the table because he didn’t want three QB recruits, and Lane told Saban he couldn’t let that happen to Flynn. Who the hell knows if that’s actually true

Those Bastrop teams were freaking stacked back in those days.

MrWise Guy thanks for the memories.
One more on Saban’s first class. He snd his staff were using the recruiting data left by DiNardo’s staff. Saban saw film on Blue Gay DB from Brusly. Gay was on an official visit to Alabama. LSU got his HS coach Brady Perry to contact him and tell him LSU offered. Gay left mid visit to come back home. Saban then ordered a new list be created because we are recruiting off “the wrong list”.

The Randle/Benton melt was historic

Rakim Jarrett thing. Was a 5 star committed to LSU. Flipped to Maryland. Literally has like 6 catches in 3 years. ..

McKnight, Jai Eugene, and Patrick Peterson telling everyone he’s not considering LSU because miles to Michigan only to commit the next day at the army AA game. Janzen Jackson is probably a first round pick if he wasn’t a TPOS.

Perrilloux switching from Texas to LSU on signing day was pretty big at the time.

When uncle Ray Ray told us that his nephew was coming to BATON ROUGE to straighten out all of the Tigers quarterback problems.Say what you want ,but Jamarcus Russell was a very good college QB.
