I feel getting Valentine would be another crown jewel of this class. We've had a few heart breakers but this class is just sick with elite talent. Adding Valentine would be

Funniest thing is that this kid goes to school in HIALEAH. Hialeah has the highest Cuban-American population (74%) of any city in the USA. 92% of residents are fluent in Spanish.

Rumored Golden may stay at Miami. If that happens, does it change our chances with Valentine?

Not a clue. I can tell you that Valentine and his HS coach have serious reservations about the state of Miami's defense that gave up more than 500 yards in 6 of their last 8 games (and 483 in another) and 40+ points in their last 5 regular season games. They are also very cognizant of LSU's recent success of getting DL into the NFL.

I was under the impression that, whoever the coach is at Miami, Valentine can not get in academically. And not of the bad grades variety.

Yeah, I'm actually a freshman at the U, and the academics are no joke. It's a top 40 school for a reason.

All that said,

I think this is one of the biggest secrets in CFB. No one ever thinks about Miami as an academic institution, even though that's actually its' greatest strength. The way they're able to qualify many of these guys is due to the private institution status. Derrick Griffin for instance could not get into TAMU, but since Miami can take a diff look (i.e., "character references" etc. ) then they can get guys in that otherwise would not qualify at many public institutions.

They may be top 40 for regular students. But they've had players that couldn't pass the ketchup.
