This is completely false and has always been false. It is even more false today with the transfer portal, due to incoming and outgoing players.

What team has won a national championship with an average 6-12 recruiting class finish?

I think it is definitely false, but what I think people mean by saying you need to be consistently in that top 3-7 range, is in the context of being a program like UGA, Alabama, and Ohio State where you are seemingly top 5 and in the hunt every single year. Not a once every 4-5 year run with off years being eliminated by October. Just depends on your perspective of whether that is reasonable or should be the expectation at LSU.

The kid Ondre Evans, that just decomitted to go to Georgia. He said he wanted to go go there because he knows he will be developed there. Pretty bad look for our staff

If you average the 2016, 17, 18, and 19 classes you get 7.75

2019 LSU put together the greatest college football team of all time with that.

Clemson, but that has nothing to do with my original post.

My original post said there is no difference between 6-12 and specifically said 1-3 are different from 6-12.

Exactly. Then we had higher ranked classes, that were worse than those lower ranked classes.

I get what you are saying but that is not exactly how it works in this instance as theoretically a 7.75 ranking could be something like top 5 over 4 years years so your composite of recruiting talent could be top 5 over four years without averaging a top 5 class and that is what is more important

to clarify, I have no idea what the numbers actually are

I do know that if you want a chance to compete for a title you better been in the top 10 of averages in talent over that 4 years, and if you want to guarantee you are competing you want to be in the top 5

That being said, with the 12 team playoff, the transfer portal, and NIL we are moving into unknown territory

no... top 15, sure... but you can go ahead and wrap your brain around not being top 10 this year

Joe Burrow
Deshaun Watson
Trevor Lawrence
Cam Newton

So basically if you are not going to recruit top 5 you better have an all time great college QB. Minus those other 2 LSU teams of course.

Are you moving the goalposts? The original question was who has won a national championship with recruiting classes that averaged 6-12.

Several teams fit that description. Whether or not they had great quarterbacks is not relevant.

And generational quarterbacks? Do you know how long a generation is? It’s 20-30 years.
