Texas State DL Levi Bell has entered the portal as a grad transfer. He is undersized, but at 22/23 years old he should be able to hold his own and provide depth
66 tackles, 40 pressures, 13 tackles for loss this past year.

He's a little on the small side at 6-1, 275. But he's productive. Maybe that's a rotation guy to go with Smith, Wingo and Guillory next year.
Nevertheless, I would be pretty disappointed if Langston wouldn't be better than Bell for us. Particularly given all the bellowing Orgeron did about how good Langston was going to be.

That’s a lot of production. He was at Louisiana Tech before Texas State.
With Joe Sloan and JR Belton coming from LT, I’m sure we could easily get him…if we want him.

Doesn't seem too much smaller than Wingo who is 6', but Wingo is also built like a tank.

Yeah, the 6-1 doesn't bother me. The 275 does. Wingo's got to be close to 300 pounds regardless of what he's listed as.
Then again, Glenn Dorsey wasn't any bigger than 6-1 and 275. If you can play, you can play. And a mid-major guy who's highly productive and a veteran could be a great fit as a rotation player in a spot like we're going to want to fill - particularly if we also take a couple of developmental high school recruits.

Did you see our defensive line get blown out by those massive Aggie offensive lineman? The last thing we need on this team is a 6-1 275 DT.

Stop reading at he’s undersized

NFL perpetual MVP candidate Aaron Donald says hello! He is listed at about 6'1, 285. It is the heart and motor that I would look for. If this kid has heart and technique, I am sure we can coach him up and use him.

He is also like 3% body fat so I doubt he is a good comparison.

Bell was previously at Louisiana Tech where he was mostly a rotational guy in 2020 and 2021. Transferred to Texas St this year and had an amazing season. PFF graded him out at 92.2 which is pretty much one of the tops in the country.
The only pause I'm seeing is Texas State played just 1 P5 team in Baylor. They graded him out at just 64.6 that game with 7 tackles, 1 TFL, 0 pressures, so not a great game, but not a bad one either.
This guy has had a ridiculously long career:
2018 - College of Idado
2019 - Tyler Junior College
2020 - Louisiana Tech
2021 - Louisiana Tech
2022 - Texas State
I'll bet he gets quite a few P5 offers.

Glenn dorsey was only 275?
I thought he was at least 295.

Someone else mentioned it as well, but there is some value in his age. Just being more physically mature and having gone through as many seasons brings a certain amount of value.
Should it be the determining factor? No. But it could be the cherry on top.

I wouldn’t get too wrapped up in every guy that enters into the portal. There will be 1000’s. I suspect we’ll be trying to pull guys in that have starting experience at positions of need, and preferably in higher level conferences.

Dorsey was 275 MAYBE as a true freshman but he played in the 290-295 range but he had great technique, unbelievable hands and always won the leverage game. When he got to the NFL he played about 310 I’m sure from NFL coaches asking him to put on a little weight to hold up against the run but I think it really changed him as a player. He might have lost just a tiny little bit of that explosiveness that made him so great and that’s all it takes in the NFL to make you go from good to average.

You also have to look at their build. Marcus and Dorsey were pretty much all lower body weight. They were probably 200lbs in the legs and 90 in the upper body or close to that. Long arms, really quick and had that nastiness to them. They were built a lot like Wingo actually. Those type of guys can stay upright because of that base and seem unmovable but then can use their leverage to get around you. It’s when they get swallowed up by those big 6’6 320 lb guys they have trouble.
We need more lean builds which is what I liked about our class. They were all 6’5 275 lbs. or close and could play multiple positions. I like those players, and they aren’t easy to get at LSU for some darn reason. I actually like that DE/DT we landed as well. He’s in that same mold but we need more. I’m not sure if I wouldn’t try that OT from Neville back at DT with Smith. At least for a couple of years then put him back at OT. He’d still get a high pick on projection alone. That’s if we can’t find anyone of his talent and skill.
