He’s got the traits you look for. He’s got good length at 6’0”. He’s tested well and his speed is where it needs to be. His film shows a competitiveness and physicality. He’s a guy you can mold for sure.

[quote]Did you happen to look at how many 5 stars aren’t what they were supposed to be either? It’s far more than you think.
It’s hot and miss regardless of star rankings and honestly, you can’t tell me with a straight face you don’t thing these rankings have a bias agenda.
You also can’t say a team of 5 stars will win you a championship. A&M says otherwise
You also can’t say a team devoid of 5 stars can’t win a championship. Clemson sure as hell did it.

If you look at the top 10 95% of the time they recruit the best players.
OMG! This isn't rocket science.
Yes you can have some three stars that pan out and spme 4 stars that don't but we can go down the list in the NFL roght now and I bet there was more 4 stars anf 5 that 3 stars even though there are about three times as many 3 stars that get recruited than 4 and 5 stars.

I wish every player we recruited panned out.
Wish the young man nothing but success and hopefully he can bring us a title.

Only scouting report available is from June. Very very strong chance that he's much better than his ranking.

Causey definitely had a breakout performance at today's camp. He was sticky in coverage and was giving receivers problems all afternoon. Tested extremely well and made his presence felt in coverage for the majority of the day. Should definitely garner more attention than he is seeing right now in terms of recruitment.

The last two years in the NFL draft in the first round.
53 four and five stars out of high school were drafted
9 three stars out of high school were drafted
3 Less than 3 stars out of high school were drafted
So of course stars matter. Individual cases may be different but the more 4 and 5 stars you have chances are you will win the most.

quote:Shea already found out the rates of 3 stars and 5 stars. LSU was one of the worst with developing 5 stars, but the best with developing 3 stars. Hell I knew we were at least one of the best with developing 3 stars by just watching LSU.
I notice the trend when we get a 3 star it usually goes something like...
3 star U. That'll help us compete with Georgia and Bama
That post gets downvoted into oblivion with responses like "don't be an idiot stargazer. Look at the offer sheet. A&M, Tennessee, Georgia and Oklahoma were after him."
I looked through our last decade of recruiting classes and the hit rate on 3 stars is pretty spotty which might be expexted. I guess broadly speaking 3 stars are 3 stars for a reason and the lower you go in the talent rankings, the less likely you are to hit on starters in that pool. But the recruiting evaluators can't hit on every guy who's going to outplay his ranking.
It may be worth a fuller dig on the success rate of a 3 star vs 4 when I've got the time to look at it

I read that Causey ran a 10.6 hundred meters, is a good cover guy and a hard hitter.
I suppose the cover guy part and hard hitter part can be subjective, but if he ran a 10.6, thats objective. Speed is an essential quality for a defensive back. A db can be as smart and savvy as you want, but being scrappy wont help him run free with a fast receiver.
I tend to pay more attention to an offer list than a recruiting site player rating. I would hope/think that college talent scouts and coaching staffs are better able to evaluate talent than writers for recruiting sites. Thats not to say that there are not some knowledgeable writers, but lots of writers probably never even played football.

Welcome aboard! The people always talking about 3 stars need to take that out of this player commitment thread.
If you want to talk about your concerns about the direction of the recruiting, do it somewhere else and in the other threads.

Wholeheartedly agree. A once in a lifetime experience for a young man, and fans can’t just accept the coaches decision, and wish the young Tiger well.

I dont think people commenting on a recruit on tigerdroppings are ruining the commitment for the player.
With that said, glad we got him

The issue isnt that we are getting commits from 3 star recruits, its that we arent getting any from 5 star recruits.
This!
I did a quick ON3 glance on 3-star signees from classes 2018-2022. LSU signed a combined 30 3-stars in those 6 class. As of now we've only hit on 6 of those 30. The rest either got buried on the depth chart & transfered out. The verdict is still out on the 2022 3-star guys, but its year 2 and Mason Taylor is the only thats in the 2 deep on the depth chart.
*2018-2022 that actually contributed*:
Damien Lewis
Jaray Jenkins
Charles Turner
Jay Ward
Cordale Flott
Mason Taylor
