Today I learned that Lynarise Elpheage is Causey's HS coach.

I did a quick ON3 glance on 3-star signees from classes 2018-2022. LSU signed a combined 30 3-stars in those 6 class. As of now we've only hit on 6 of those 30. The rest either got buried on the depth chart & transfered out. The verdict is still out on the 2022 3-star guys, but its year 2 and Mason Taylor is the only thats in the 2 deep on the depth chart.

*2018-2022 that actually contributed*:
Damien Lewis
Jaray Jenkins
Charles Turner
Jay Ward
Cordale Flott
Mason Taylor
This was on Ed O's terrible recruiting at that time. That 18 class was horrible, and many of us said it during the time, us reasonable ones, not the trolls.

This is a snapshot of Les Miles last 6 years (2011-2016 recruits)

TL;DR We have about a 40% win rate with 3 star recruits. Add in transfers now, and it goes to about 42.5%

(Excludes dudes who went straight to JUCO or kicking specialists)

2011
Signed 9 3 stars

Notable Transfers
Paul Turner - transfered to LA Tech after 2 years (87 catches 1117 yards 7 TDs) was signed to 5 different NFL squads but that's about it

Notable 3 Stars
Jalen Collins
Terrence Magee
Ronald Martin

2012
Signed 7 3 stars (Dural was less than 20 spots from being a 3 star, so I didn't add him)

Notable 3 stars
Jalen Mills
Dillon Gordon

2013
Signed 9 3 stars

Notable 3 stars
Duke Riley
Lewis Neal
Tashawn Bowers
K.J. Malone
Logan Stokes
Fehoko Fanaika (sort of as a rotational depth piece)

2014 (since this page isn't working, I can't check composite. I'm just going by Rivals
Signed 7 3 stars

Notable 3 stars
DJ Chark
Russell Gage
Colin Jeter
Donnie Alexander

2015
Signed 9 3 stars

Notable Transfers
Justin McMillian- went to Tulane and had a great 2 years. Combined for 3770 pass yards 27 TDs 14 ints and 985 rush yards 17 TDs in 22 games. In his final season he had 3190 total yards and 29 total TDs
Jazz Ferguson - went to NWST, 66 catches 1117 yards 13 TDs in 1 year
Hanner Shipley - went to LA Tech and started 15 games his 2 years there at tackle

Notable 3 stars
Foster Moreau
Bry'Keithan Mouton

2016
Signed 7 3 stars (one was the infamous Valentine)

Notable Transfers
Lindsey Scott - was an FCS monster. Started at Nichols St for 2 years and Incarnate Ward for one. Finished with 8414 pass yards 94 TDs to 26 ints. He added in 2260 rush yards and 26 TDs. His final year at UIW was insane. He completed 71% of his passes for 4660 pass yards 60 TDs to 8 ints with 712 rush yards and 11 TDs.

Notable 3 stars
Llyod Cushenberry
Cameron Lewis

So they signed 48 3 stars, not including specialists, over a 6 year period. With those 48, 19 became contributors to LSU as either starting for 9+ games and playing in many more, or being a rotational piece in addition to starting some times. That is a 39.6% hit rate over that time period.

If you look at our class right now we have 9 composite 3 stars. When we had Miles, that resulted in a 39.6% hit rate over his last 6 years. Essentially 3.5 of these recruits should pan out with a likely 1-2 more transferring, if you look at that average. I'm hoping for 2 corners and at least one on DL and one on OL.

If you want to look at 3 stars that panned out at LSU during Kelly's brief stint, and yes I will use the transfers' high school rankings, here they are.

Mekhi Wingo
Mason Taylor
Jarrick Bernard Converse
Joe Foucha
Miles Frazier
Mekhi Garner
Kyren Lacy

Of the 16 3 stars, out of high school, that were picked up in 2022 as transfers or freshman, 7 panned out for a 43.7% rate.

So far, of the 16 we have this year, 6 have shown their worth for a 37.5% win rate. Hughes and Stamps have a chance to make it to 50%

Panned out is a very loose term. Just because they play or start don’t make them good. 6 and 2 and a suspect defense and an awful secondary isn’t successful. We are forced to play weak players because of injury, 5* that are under achieving and not pulling big fish in recruiting. Adding 18 3* exacerbates the situation. No undefeated seasons 8-4 to 10-2 seasons.

This is year 2 of a total rebuild. Signing day is still a ways out.

Maybe it’s just me but some of these “sky is falling” takes seem a little premature

We are going to need a DB coach who can develop these guys and coach them to be in the right place at the right time.
That coach is not on this staff yet.

I would rather look at their offer sheet than their star rating. I think that says a lot more usually. Not always but most of the time.

The coaching staff knows Causey because he camped here. It's not like their selecting a player they don't know or trust. Welcome aboard Bernard Causey.

zip don't think you get it. These are the 3 stars out of high school that have panned out for LSU in the 2023 class

Logan Diggs - 611 rush yards 5.8 ypc 6 TDs 8 receptions 82 receiving yards

Andre Sam - 49 tackles 3 ints 3 PBUs

Braden Swinson - 22 tackles 4.5 TFL 1 sack 1 FF, 5 QB hurries, 3 PBUs. He's come along excellent in a rotational role and is probably our most disruptive lineman.

Jordan Jefferson - 21 tackles 4.5 TFLs 1 sack 1 PBU. He's only in rotation, but he's really damn good in his spot

Zy Alexander - 44 tackles 2 ints 7 PBUs say what you want, but he's our best cover corner by far. Alexander would be in rotation at the CB spot even if we had really good corners. Hell, if LSU had a decent secondary around him, he'd be way better than he is now.

Omar Speights - didn't play well at first because of injury, but has come along these last 2 games and has 17 tackles in that span

Now that I look back, only 6 are really out there doing their thing, not 8, however, with Zy out, Hughes and Stamps have a chance to make it 8.

True on who is playing decent but not game changers, for that matter neither is Harold Perkins this year or the big 0. Nobody on D has stepped it up enough for any offense to game plan around.

My bad on putting this kid in next years class.
