This is a free country and free market people can make as much money as they want. We don't cap companies, social media influences, and billionaires.

It seems like a mess. A bidding war for mercenaries. You know Matthew's wanted to stay home but couldn't pass on the $$$... I'm really beginning to lose interest in NCAA football. I'm sure come season I'll be glued to the tube. There has to be some rules that are enforceable or this is going to get insane.

I kinda like the angle it creates. Matthews now becomes the bad guy and people will want him to fail and will watch to see if that happens.

since we really can't compete with the biggest players in NIL we are going to need to get players on the rebound out of the transfer portal. The transfer portal is going to be a bigger benefit for LSU than a team like aTm. The transfer rule the way it is now, with no year of waiting, is good for LSU unless NIL is somehow gotton under control. While NIL seems to have hurt LSU recruiting, the transfer portal has been our friend.

Getting rid of the one year sit-out rule without fixing NIL would be the worst thing that could happen for LSU

it can only be handled by the conferences and it's too soon to act (react)

It will come down to boosters/businesses not getting ROI that will eventually even it out on the lower end players but the top dogs will continue to see more and more money.

The ROI for the A&M boosters is a championship. You have to look at this through two levels. The first true NIL which is what LSU thought they got out in front of. Businesses paying players for their NIL to hopefully help their business or the player marketing themselves etc.

The second level is just passing money through NIL to pay a player to come to your school. The A&M boosters care very little about ROI business wise and only about ROI on the field.

I don’t think you need to cap NIL deals, NIL deals should just have to be submitted to schools/ncaa and they should be common sense/reasonable value for the deal.

How is company actually using the players name,
Image and likeness and does it make sense based on current market rates, etc. Players should have to show they actually went to meet and greets, made social media posts, we’re used in ads, etc.

Essentially get rid of the shadows “sponsorships” that are just pay for play

Definitely needs some fixes but hard to cap NIL. If you truly are paying a player for his name, image or likeness you can pay anybody anything you want.

Why wouldn’t NCAA just say if students earns more than say $30k per year then he is no longer eligible for collegiate amateur sports!

So should BK have to sit out next year too? Since when have people been okay with limiting someone else earning potential? And with transfers all that happen is now athletes are like the rest of the college kids. If I study engineering and change schools I don’t have to take a year off from studying

Stop it with this. The kid went to A&M. If he wanted to go to LSU, he would have. You all just want to try and justify the kids decision for him and take away any blame from him on his decision.

He CHOSE to go to A&M. If he did so over a bit more money, then he never wanted to come to LSU for it being LSU in the first place.

who's to say it was just a "bit more money". Probably was a lot more money. $450k vs $100k perhaps. That's not chump change for most people.

It has to happen to save cfb.

I don't understand why everyone is so triggered by NIL. CFB is the same as it always has been. It's the same pipelines going to the same programs. If anything, this has a chance of creating some (much-needed) parity. Players can no longer afford (nor will they tolerate) being buried on an org chart. It will be better (from an NIL perspective) to start as a freshman at UCF than to warm the bench for 2 years at Alabama. This is a good thing.

Ok, at least bring back the 1 year sit rule for transfers
90% of transfers are for legit reasons, so making that a rule just hurts a lot of players for zero reason. It was always a stupid rule.

NIL should not be part of HS recruiting. Nothing wrong with showing current players NIL deals that earned it on the field…but handing NIL deals to HS recruits is ridiculous.

And there’s how you regulate it.

I almost prefer portal kids with the right fit. Kids that hit the portal twice will have the perception it’s the kid with the problem and career is likely ending. Someone like Mike Jones had every right to be disgruntled but is sticking it out. Odds are A&M class and even our 15 high school signees will see 1/3 hit the portal next 2 years.

On3 thing they can really do is change the transfer rules back. I say they go hardline and put restrictions on in conference transfers too. This will force kids to actually really think about where they are going out of school.

One other thing that I have seen that should 100% be implemented is that no one should be allowed to get NIL deals until a year into college.
